Dude was beyond bad. But that made him getting the game winning hit a better story.

At least Larson logged some time in the big leagues with Cincinnati.

Oh gotcha. Didn't he set the HR record? That season was ridiculous. Awesome to watch.

anyone saying 09 must not have been a fan in the 90s.

'97 hands down. '98 right behind them.
edit : I'm looking up stuff about the '97 team now and everyone remembers how bad we beat them in the championship game, I mean from literally our first at-bat on. But I forgot how the last SEC series of the season was at Alabama and they beat us 2 out of 3 (including beating us 28-2!) Then we split a pair with them in the SEC tourney including losing the CG to them. Then we stomped them when it mattered most. Good times.

98 was the best team never to win a title. Unfortunately, USC was a little bit better. One of my favorite games was beating USC in the CWS hitting 8 homers in one game against some real good pitching.

Why does '98 keep getting thrown out there? That team is the only LSU team to ever start 2-0 in Omaha and not win the title.
At first thought, the '97 team was always my answer to the best team. The '97 team just flat out bashed the ball 1-13 in the lineup. The 2000 had the players with the best pro careers, but that pitching staff was not deep at all. Brian Tallet and not much else. Weylin Guedry had a great freshman year, and then scouting reports seemed to catch up with him. I always felt that the 2000 team won the title because of the program. Put those same players in another uniform and they might not have felt like they were supposed to win it all. I think that most of the guys on that team played above their actual ability (Jeremy Witten, Blair Barbier, Ben Saxon) because "they played for LSU, and winning CWS is what we do".
However, the more I think about it, the 2009 team was the most complete. Dominant 1-2 pitching with a great bullpen (Chad Jones late and Matty Ott all year). The hitting and fielding on that team was great from top to bottom, infield to outfield. Make the 1997 team hit with the 2009 version bats and I might pick the 2009 team. The biggest advantage that I would give the 1997 team is coaching.

98' and 2000 were my two personal favorites. Mainly because I was in Omaha for those.
But they had extremely talented guys on those teams who went pro. Like someone said earlier, hard to believe Cresse's career turned out as it did. Was probably my favorite tiger.

These were all valid points. My personal favorite will always be the 09 team because I was in school for that one and friends with several players.
'97 though makes a good case...man gorilla ball was fun to watch back then

How many players from the 2000 team plays in or made the bigs?
Theriot-active
Fontenot-active
Hodges
Hawpe-active
Tallet-active
That argument doesn't mean much because for most it doesn't take only 2 years to get from minors to the pros.
Theriot, Fontenot, Hawpe, and Tallet played just about 5 years of minor league before really making the bigs.
From the 09 team LeMahieu is already in the Bigs along with Louis Coleman who made the league in less than 3 years. Can't really use the pro players to compare the 2000 team to the 2009 team because some of those guys haven't even played minor league ball yet (Mahtook, Gibbs) and some are even still at LSU (Hanover, Nola)

1997 followed closely by 2009

I do miss the gorilla ball and think the 90s teams will always be my favorites because of it. I did enjoy watching the 09 team with our 2 aces tho. Its hard to say but I would have to agree with '97
