It's probably criminal how much he was held back due to the coaching philosophy of the time.

Bert Jones really did have a cannon.
Chollie Mac had been burned several seasons by QB injuries to Nelson Stokley and Pat Screen. He started playing it safe by platooning QBs.
I was at LSU at the time. Good Times.

He still lives in Crowley but his medical conditon is very sad!
Say prayers for him and his family.
Specifically what is his issue?
ETA: Nevermind. I searched and found it. Sounds very bad.

My understanding is that his two punt returns for touchdowns against Ole Miss in 1970 tied an NCAA record that was not broken for 33 years.

Ole Miss fans always make the excuse that Archie had his arm in a cast. However, Archie was not on the field when LSU score 59 of our 61 points.

As did mine. I hope the younger generation takes a look back at his time at LSU. One of the greatest Tigers of all time in my opinion. Prayers to you Mr Casanova. May God bless you and your family

Love the 15 step drop by Jones before slinging it. Distance not matter! Just need time.

Correct
There is a highlight film that includes the '71 season. In it, vs State I think, he sidesteps a rusher, stops and throws it 60 yards in the air almost nonchalantly.

My mom grew up across the street from Tommy Casanova

True. The first one. Had Casanova taken that punt it is possible that he would have returned it for a touchdown too.

Hamiltons strides on those TD runs are sick!

they ran reverses and fake reverses with Burn and Casanova fielding the punts. I would love to see that strategy employed again, probably because I watched them happen and have a vivid memory of all three of them against my favorite team to beat GO TO HELL OLE MISS

FIFY. He was one of the best football players in LSU history

I caught a pass from him as a kid at a Steve Stonebreaker football camp in Covington at the St Paul's School when I was about 7 yrs old. As soon as I turned around in stride, the football hit me dead center in the chest and nearly knocked me off my feet. He threw a bullet with perfect timing. Hurt like hell, but I didnt dare say anything. That night I pulled my shirt off and had a third tit square center chest. Took forever for that cherry to go away. I cherish that memory as a kid. Got to meet Jimmy Taylor too. Good times.

Gate 10 Section 20 2 ramps up about the 15
Yard line. My lifetime seat and 8 my father had starting in 1948.
I remember watching Bert Jones and Andy Hamilton while my friends routinely made $40-$50 per game working the concession stand. They kept asking me to work and I finally told my father I wanted to work it.
He said, and I quote “Jesus Christ son you sit next to me with cokes, hot dogs, peanuts and watch these great games and once a quarter I give you a $20 bill to go get me a cup of ice. Not once in all these years have
you ever given me change back. I know damn well your friends are giving you the cup of ice so each game you make $80 plus free food and get to watch the damn game. I’ve got to go talk to your god damn math teacher.”

The halfback pass for TD to start the Auburn game in 1969 is a vivid memory for me.
Great pass and execution.

Not the first punt that Burns returned. He was the sole returner back to receive on that touchdown.
