I agree he would be miles ahead of what we have had the past several years in terms of coaching. But he just doesn't excite me as a potential coach. I remember well the Brady years and that's what this feels like to me. Yes, better than the current state but we could do better IMO.

I would like to see someone who brings positive energy along with his coaching acumen. I want someone to make me excited about supporting the program. I don't want someone that I tolerate because they win. To me that's not fun.

Considering the initial constraints he faced at Indiana, I think he would be a good hire.

I'd much rather another former Marquette coach Buzz Williams over Tom Crean. Buzz Williams is younger, more energetic, did more at Marquette than Tom Crean, and has meh Virginia Tech in the tournament.

Yes, please. Buzz was my choice when we hired Johnny. He is my #1 target if I'm Alleva.

So you think Alleva could get him at 50% discount now? Get real. At schools where basketball is a second-tier sport like LSU, a young, up-and-coming assistant coach from a Final Four team would be sufficient and it probably would cost only $400-500K with incentives to start with and it certainly would be an improvement from JJ.

Buzz Williams didn't do as much as Crean.

By the end of Williams at Marquette, he was 17-14. There's a reason he bolted.

Crean was the architect. Williams was the substitute teacher.

Not good enough at IU equals great hire at LSU usually

Crean was one of the hottest names in coaching when he was at MU.

Yes! I want to see him drink beer on the bench in the PMAC.

It must be an extremely small amount of Saban A Saban type coach at a program like IU would be winning championships....... Not missing a tournament for the top 68 teams...........

Buzz Williams went to the Elite 8 in his 5th season at Marquette. Crean had no influence on that.

Buzz went Sweet 16, Sweet 16, Elite 8 in seasons 3,4,5

He was as good, or slightly better in terms of consistency than Crean was at Marq

Valid point. But, I still think his tailspin at MU is a negative on Williams

He's a HUGE upgrade over Johnny and Trent. Anyone complaining about this needs to get over it.

I'm sure he has the stones to meet with him. That is until Crean decides to talk to another school. Then, Alleva will get butt hurt and go with an "LSU guy".

LOL. What a stupid narrative. Did you want Alleva to get in a bidding war with Texas and still be turned down in the end? How humiliating would that have been?
It's like being the bucktooth hillbilly and approaching the long legged beauty who already has decided who's taking her home. Herman wasn't coming to LSU after Texas entered the picture.

In the 400-500 range, we'd compete with Northeastern, Georgia State, and New Mexico State. We'd get what we paid for - hell, we were lowest paying in the SEC and we got what we paid for.

If we are going to listen to you, we might as well just advertise it on campus and pay LSU's best intramural player $20/hour to do the job.
