Coach Johnson showed last season that he places very little emphasis on winning the SEC tournament.

I think that’s the wise thing to do, but at the same time we know baseball teams fall into a routine and playing three games on a weekend is one of them.

I’d definitely set my pitching, rest guys who are bunged up, give some chances to key bench players and key relievers.

If we won fine, but the key would be to set the pitching and to keep guys sharp but fresh.

Playing one game doesn’t make sense. I’d suggest four pods. Each pod would play each tesm in their pod. The winner of a pod advances. Everyone else goes home. Then with four teams left they could do 2 semifinal games and then a conference final.

8 teams play at Hoover Met
8 teams play in Birmingham @ Regions Field

The championship series would be in Hoover.
Pool 1 first seed, 8th, 9th, 16th
Pool 2 2nd seed, 7th, 10th, 15th
Pool 3 3rd seed, 6th, 11th, 14th
Pool 4 4th seed, 5th, 10th, 13th

Championship game Saturday
Semis Friday
Pool play Tuesday, Wed., and Thursday. Everyone plays the first three days at the two fields.

That's the best route to go. In no world will there ever be even 12 NCAA tourney deserving teams from the SEC (I don't think any more than 10 should ever really get in honestly). We don't need to help on the margins for the 13-16.

The 12 team pool format guarantees two games. Only taking 12/16 provides a valuable service of separating the bottom of the conference and setting another achievement goal/metric. Plus, you make more games happen between the better teams, really amping up the SOS and RPI.

Are the concession stands open? I've never attended one of these scrimmages but I want to take my son on Saturday.

No just the restrooms. Walk in and bring whatever you'd like. You don't have to worry about the clear bag policy either as there is no one attending the gates.

No shite? I can bring in beer? My son just needs a snack. But his dad would like a few cold ones.

Yes. It won't be a problem. Just be respectful and pick up your trash before leaving. Jani-King ain't working to sweep the stadium clean after the scrimmage.

On a similar note...somebody last weekend said that there wasn't any toilet paper in the men's room near the team clubhouse entrance. Luckily I didn't have to find that out the hard way lol.

On top of that, it also keeps teams from having to burn arms. Max amount of games to play in the tourney would be 4

Winning that tourney now is punishing

I enjoyed the anecdote Coach Johnson gave about last season when he went to the mound to visit with Griffin Herring. It was in the later innings and we were up but the other team had 2 men on base with two outs.

He said before he could even say anything Herring said, "Coach, go back into the dugout and tell Coach Johnson (Wes Johnson, pitching coach) to call for 3 straight sliders and I'll strike this guy out and we'll be back in the dugout."

Johnson said, "I told him alright and he did."
