Same. I’m a vet and I would much rather be able to say I was SF or had a Ranger Tab than have a bronze star.

You're not trying to propel yourself into a media and literary career via podcast guessting

I’d rather have a combat valor award than any tab or qual, and it’s not close. Pure vanity i guess, but no question for me

You’ve got to be cut from a different cloth to split duty between the military and cage fighting for multiple decades just so you can wind down with some side work in the Congolian jungle.

I have two of those in a fancy oak box on my desk, one has an oak cluster and the other has a V device.

Full disclosure I didn’t earn them but my grandfather did.

I don’t display them bc that feels weird but they sit there in a closed box on my desk to remind me that I’m a disgrace to my bloodline when I complain about a bad day doing what I do.

appreciate everything IS service mem ers have done anf do today. By the same token, I don't give a damn what happens to mercs. I served with some great Am3ricans under the flag of the USA. Once you do it gor money or recognition, and not your home, I don't g8v3 a frick. Solfiers of Fortune/mercs are doing it for themselves.

As soon as these guys serve multiple tours for SF, they can finally make real money doing contracts for a few years. You can call them mercs all you want but I don’t blame them. We don’t pay our SF enough for them to not get at least a few years of high pay for all the training and sacrifices they’ve given.
