I’m starting to think last year we were not that good and just exceeded expectations… which caused astronomical expectations this year

Totally agree. I think we'll sneak a win in that we shouldn't win. But this is an 8-4 season.

Last year LSU got lucky several times; (Ole Miss, Arkansas, Bama)

The problem the way we lost. There was very little fight in this team the second half. Guys jogging around instead of running.
Then you factor in Perkins role and taking out what a guy does best.
Coaching is subpar on so many fronts.
Look at recruiting, its not going well at all. We need some bluechippers to make a difference. Other teams are negative recruiting LSU coaches. Steeples takes the brunt from negative recruiting.

I'm still hopeful.
However after listening to a couple former LSU and NFL players analyze the performance, it raises
some doubts.

Should fans be satisfied losing 45-24? I’m not saying fire the guy by any means. I’m not even mentioning that. That would be stupid. But to not be concerned with what you saw on Sunday is insane. The coach even admitted today that his players didn’t give full effort. To quote “we didn’t sprint after plays”. To me an effort problem is a lot worse than a scheme problem.

Saban lost to ULM early on at Bama. Orgeron lost to Troy two years before the championship (granted he drove the team into the ground after that). He still has another year or 2 to prove himself imo.
I just dont understand the logic of bringing up the failures of the previous coach to justify the current coach's failures just make it seem like its "okay".
Its like the same BS excuse that often gets thrown around on the recruiting board when we're not landing the caliber of recruits we should be getting... "jUstiN jEffErSon wAs a tWo sTaR"

Kelly ought to be criticized - all the credit for the good wins, all the blame for the bad losses.
Bama lost to ULM in Ssban's Y1. I doubt Bama was ranked #5 then with like 9 starters back on offense and a 5Y returning QB only to ba almost shutout in the 2nd half.
And to stoop to compare a HC to Orgeron is incriminating in itself.

I'm not skeptical. I am a little concerned he won't lead us to the promised land, but I think he'll get a lot of wins.
That said:
-He brought Polian down. ND fans said Polian was abysmal. He turned out to be so. Polian was reassigned and/or quit. He doesn't hire a replacement. Instead, another one of his former hires at ND, Bob Diaco, was hired a a defensive analyst. He just recently plugged him in as a special teams coordinator. Our special teams are still abysmal. Some of the worst in the country.
-With such a poor secondary, he takes arguably our best player, who so happens to be arguably the best pass rusher in the entire country, and plugs him in a position that just isn't a fit. By doing so, he diminished the kid's best abilities. With a poor secondary, don't you want someone who can get to the quarterback quickly?
-After not securing Tommy Rees, he brings his former hire, Mike Debrock, down. The results are mixed. Our lack of running game is concerning.
-I never saw a QB really develop and grow throughout his time with Kelly. Daniels, while not a problem, per se, appears to be the exact same player. His passing game is average, just like last season, and he's an electrifying runner, just like last season. I just don't see any progress.
-He shows a lot of loyalty to "his guys" despite his guys may not be the best fit for LSU.
-He's got this "Les Miles" factor to him. Not in a goofy, fun loving way. He's quite the opposite, and I do appreciate his candor. It's refreshing after Miles and Orgeron. He'll win games, but he's got this conservative playing style in him that just seems very dated in today's game. It's concerning. Saban adapted. Look what Tennessee is doing. Look at Ole Miss. If you want to have this conservative style, that's fine, you just better have Georgia's roster, and we don't have that. I also don't think he'll ever build that.
-In sum, I see a lot of 9, 10 win seasons.

Last night was a continuation of the end of last year aside from the LSU versus Purdue U19 team that didn’t have a head coach.
Posted on 9/5/23 at 2:26 pm to TheOldMan
The recruiting and on field talent worries me more than any coaching.
UGA and Bama just have completely different players than we do. Can you’d till beat them from time to time? Sure. But you ain’t sustaining what we want to sustain with the players we are getting now

Well, ok…i guess I feel Ive seen enough. His scheming is dated and limited. His preparation is inconsistent at best. His on field presence seems irrelevant. He wins games where his talent is superior…which should mean 10 / year at LSU. But his recruiting performance this far is underwhelming. We are not on our way to being a UGA where we just show up and out talent people. So to think this guy is going to consistently produce championship quality teams?…yeah, Ive seen enough.
