No they don't.

ETA What the bowl does is give a payout....which means that the AD is free to maximize profit from the bowl by managing expenses. Get it?

No they don’t. The payout goes to the SEC and is then split 15 ways.

That is absolutely not what it means. The payouts for some bowls don't even cover expenses....I'd assume that the Fiesta Bowl does but it may not and even if it does it is the AD that dictates how much of the payout to spend on the band....you need to get a clue.

Please...I said that it is paid for by the bowl. If the band and Joe decide not to spend it on the band, that is a choice. But it does not change the fact that the money is there (from the bowl).

I don’t think it’s an equal split, though. I think schools that go to bigger bowls get a greater amount of the pot. The bigger bowls cost more money to attend, so it makes sense.

WRONG. There are two payouts. One to the school and one to the conference.

This is fallacy. Don't believe everything you read in the paper from Joe Alleva.

No it’s not.

LSU lost money last time they played in the BCS Championship. In New Orleans. And that was without a cross-country charter flight and a sellout of the University’s ticket allotment.

This is what you said.

quote:

This is a terrible decision. Traditionally, each university is represented in the parade by their band (like the Rose Bowl parade). The Tiger Band staff should be ashamed of themselves for "skipping out" of this prestigious event. This is a "black eye" for the university. Embarrassing. Sad.

Tiger Band staff had no part in the decision to "skip out" it came from the AD and the athletic Dept....and it isn't a "black eye" on anyone unless you consider keeping unnecessary expenses to a minimum a bad thing.

Nonsense. Please stop believing everything you read in the Advocate quoted from Joe Alleva.

This is absolutely true. It may not be the case for the majority of SEC bowl games, but it is for many of them. If LSU went to the Belk Bowl, it would probably be break even.

So up until here I thought you were talking out of your arse.....now I know that to be the case.

It is not.....LSU has lost money on bowl games before and it was before Joe Alleva.

Go to the Fiesta Bowl Parade web site. Every university band for at least the past 8 years has managed to participate in the parade......until now.

Common sense and I have a pretty good idea of how support staff trips are funded for LSU athletics.

Dude. Give it a rest. If they were skipping a parade for the Sugar Bowl, that would be a missed recruiting op. They aren’t going to grab a bunch of kids from fricking Arizona and the West Coast by playing in a parade. Damn.

Good day.

I remember for the 2005 Peach Bowl we randomly had the Peach Bowl parade pass us while walking downtown.

It was that moment that I found out there were bowl parades other than the Rose Bowl.
