I think DA is a great coach. I just don't believe he is the god some make him out to be. We have had better defenses without him as our DC and this year I really expected the defense to be one of our best ever...it wasn't. He did not earn top DC pay this year.
his 3 man upfront leaves us vulnerable.
That cost us the ND game last year.
and I am sure more.

Chaisson is good but more of an edge rusher than a run stopper. ONE MAN shouldn't be the answer either!

can anyone explain to me how a 3 man front with a Buck OLB leaves us anymore vulnerable than a 4 man front with two DEs that are essentially the same players who are now out Buck LB?

This type of post doesn’t fit the narrative, but I agree that our defense underperformed this year in a couple of big game situations. They were also fantastic for the majority of the year.
I think we were the 10th ranked defense in the country in terms of efficiency. Total defense wasn’t as good as that. Either way, I think everyone agrees Aranda is a great defensive coordinator, but he might not quite have lived up to his paycheck this year, considering the talent we had on defense.
I also think everyone agrees that Aranda is the last name on the list when you think of the problems with LSU football.

Don’t sell edge rushers short
Look how valuable they are in the NFL.
Not having one is an issue.

Just another person that expects the defense to win every game for ya. The fact that we count on our defense to hold everybody below 21 to win is the major problem
Actually they expect him to hold everyone to zero. Dude was getting shade for the Bama game.

All 3 All Americans were in the game when A&M was facing 4th and 18 from their own 39 yard line with 26 seconds left and 0 timeouts.
Anyone want to explain away the last 3 plays that went for 20, 22, and 19 yards for a td?

Guess that falls on the HC, right chief? The HC decides his staff. O fought tooth and nail to retain Aranda. So, if you don't like Aranda, you know who to blame, huh?

You morons act like Aranda is running the program LMAO. This program would be perfectly fine without Aranda and I'm certain of that. Of course he's a great DC and one of the best in the country BUT we could find another DC. There is a number of great guys out there who are up and comers and who are solidified already. We'd be fine.
It also shows you how important the LOS is to one side or the other. So everyone harping on Steve E for his offense need to look no further than Aranda and his defense to see how important the LOS is to an offense or a defense.
Give Steve E an OL and better RBs I'll bet his offense performs at a much better level.

Don't whine to us about it. Take it up with the idiot handing out raises.
And for what it's worth, if Aranda didn't earn his pay this year, there's not a single fricking coach on this staff that earned his pay this year.

Nope, but let's not act like his defense wasn't carrying water for the offense all year. Again.

Not sure why you're pretending that is a foregone conclusion given O's track record on hiring assistants. Obviously yes we COULD hire another good or great DC like Aranda but O hasn't exactly blown it out of the water in this department either here or at Ole Miss.

We'll find out after O (for the 2nd year in a row) fixes all our problems in the trenches this offseason.

Where the hell is all this Aranda hate coming from?

All year? Or in the 4th quarter of the A&M game?

Chavis for the most part had a good defense and called good plays until he got to third down and then he was absolute dog shite.

Because they threw the ball at the guys who were not All-Americans?

We should try that approach

Thought Aranda was mediocre at best this season,
Before the ATM game with 7 OTs we didn't have an opponent (including Bama) that put 30 on us. Yet we still couldn't beat UF or put up one point against Bama. Still some of you sit here and act like when you're Offense is in the 70s in ppg and your D is in the top 10 it's the defenses fault for being mediocre. I swear you can't make this shite up.

Who do you think O will hire? Who has he put on staff so far that inspires great confidence that he will make the best hire at DC?

The only thing I'll be critical of aranda about is, he wasn't aggressive enough times on third down. This also may have been because he didn't totally trust nickel, dime and safety opposite delpit to cover guys and to commit to blitzing more people.
