No "possibly" to it. TQ is a projected first rounder.

at these folks who say we're "a year away."

Do they not understand how cbb works these days?

This is a "one and done" team. It's now or never.

2016-2017 will be the first year of a total rebuild.

I think the football rantards with their "oh, we're young!" mantra year after year are now infecting basketball.

If only we could play Marquette or NC State or AZ State at the Barclay center in Brooklyn NY, that would be so cool to see one day

The HC has to fix that. That's called paying attention to details.

There's a lot to be excited about. This is a team with crazy natural talent and if we can hit 3s consistently, we will be a tough team to beat. The one thing I was looking forward to that I was bummed we didn't see more was the full court press. I want to see who we are when we apply 3/4 court pressure for a full half.
. Agreed, but my excitement for this team is tempered by Jones. I don't trust him one bit with even a loaded team like this. He will find ways to screw this team up and they will lose numerous games they shouldn't based on poor coaching decisions and lack of player development.

Exactly! It's like he hasn't gotten progressively better each year he's been here.

Simmons is an overall better version of Martin. Mickey would have solidified the paint

From what I saw tonight, Victor will definitely be in the starting five come mid December and everyone will be pleasantly surprised by his level of contribution. IMO, and I may be biased, he will provide just as much production as Mickey did in the paint. Some of y'all have to realize that even though Victor didn't get much playing time while at Arizona, he was going up against some of the very best big men day in and day out in practice for over a year while he was over there. To me Victor is more explosive than Mickey and has a better mid range game too and defensively wise, I'm sure he's learned at lot of how to effectively defend bigger players.

I think Victor paired with Simmons will definitely be a force in the front court. Especially with the shooters we have in Blakeney, Sampsons, and Hornsby. The lanes willl be there for Victor and Simmons to do some damage.

They ended up struggling in the second hall with all the fouls (called on both teams), but I was happy with the defensive effort for the most part. All three freshman really play hard on that end.

Robinson's passing from the center of the zone was excellent. Two quick finds to set up guys for points.

Simmons got all the headlines, which is understandable. But how about Blakeney?!! Just a quiet 22 and 10 (with zero TOs) in his first start.

Gray suspended? I'm worried that he won't make it through the season. I don't think he's all that excited with his role.

Plenty of room for improvement. But overall, a good start

I never seen victor play but Mickey is really explosive. We won't miss his offense as much as we will miss his rebounding and defense. Elbert looked better even though his matchups were much faster than him but he has to learn to go straight up to block shots. At 7'1 290 you can't and don't need to swat in order to block or disrupt shots. When we have Robinson in the game jones needs to get into a zone and just let him sit in the paint, his peremeter defense is scary bad.

Granted only one game but why do LSU fans relish underachieving with such great athletes . Seems like it happens in all sports at LSU like almost it's the LSU way?

I saw a lot of talent on the court last night. Should be a very fun year, we just need to develop some chemistry and figure out each player's role. Simmons is a unique talent and we need to figure how to best utilize him to get the most out of the players around him.

Our depth in the backcourt may be the best LSU has ever had. If Elbert can step up and be a solid big man, it will make a huge difference. His shooting looked good, but his hands are still pretty weak.

This team flashed a lot of potential. Without question when the game became out of reach our guys took tje foot off the gas and almost gave up a 30 plus point lead. However i still came away very impressed with the level of play when we had things rolling. Ad in the fact that we had 3 sec caliber STARTERS that didnt even dress out and you have to be excited. Jones will be able to really run this if he likes. We are DEEP.

How is us winning underachieving? They are 1-0 and didn't drop an egg like Wisconsin did. Johnny Jones has won more games in his first 3 years than any coach in LSU history yet he's shite let's get rid of him. He can't develop players because Quartermann, Epps, and Patterson never improved and developed. There isn't this much bitching about baseball yet it's been a top program for years where basketball has been down for years. I feel like there is a portion of the fan base that would complain if this team finished 2nd in the ncaa tournament and want Johnny Jones fired.

It's been 1 game, without 2 starters, and you're writing off the season.

The word idiot was created for you

I thought he was suspended for playing in that charity basketball tourney.

Or was this unrelated?

Hornsby is the heart of the team. When he comes back the level of play will go up along with the addition of victor. This team is going to be very good

Holy shite

Being good at free throws is like being good at math; both are shame-worthy.

Really though, it's pretty mind boggling how we can't even shoot at an acceptable high school level from the line.

He was.

Hard to find much basketball iq in this thread.

People saying ben needs to be more selfish are clueless, nearly every basket we got when he was in the game was a direct result of where he was on the floor. I was thoroughly impressed how much he impacted the game without the ball in his hands.

This should be a fun year.
