Those who feel that Greedy’s decision is logical

why play against Rice? Or Tech? Or SELA?
To argue that a NY6 bowl game that’s going to have such a big impact on the trajectory of this program is soooo irrelevant and pointless as to justify sitting while healthy makes no sense whatsoever when the player in question is out there padding stats against nobodies. If it’s all about not risking injury, skip Rice ffs. It would be a lot more respectable to see draft locks sit during tune-up games, if this is going to be the new trend. Your teammates probably don’t need you so why risk it?
But instead you wait til the bowl game to say frick it, I’ve got my highlight reel, I’m sitting. Nevermind the one team one heartbeat shite, nevermind playing in a New Year’s bowl, nevermind that the other starting CB is out for surgery. Sorry. It’s a chickenshit move and Greedy went from being one of my favorites this decade to getting filed under ‘Arden Key’........ And yes, my opinion means nothing to a millionaire athlete, but idgaf. Greedy has disappointed me and a lot of other Tiger faithful.

Kyler Murray played all year while sitting on a 5 million dollar MLB contract......

I can see both sides but he played until there was no hope of making the playoffs. It sounds kind of shitty when you say it but it is what it is. It's his life.

You are guys are the people that are selfish. Comparing skipping one game and getting a jump on the NFL draft process by over a month is not that the same as skipping games in season
My god, the kid gave everything to LSU for three years and now has the opportunity to change his family's life forever. Congrats to him and go kick some arse in the NFL!

First, it's only 3 periods...
Second, I'll let Greedy know how you feel and get back to you on where this ranks on his give-a-frick meter.
Have to be honest and say it's probably not going to move the needle much for him.

quote:Well, you're wrong. It's mitigating risk without hurting draft stock. That second part is key.

quote:Exactly. It's a sound financial decision that's rare for people in his situation. Good for him.

Greedy made a commitment to the team to play the regular season and if applicable, the playoffs, because that is a natural progression of the regular season. All other bowl games are exhibition games designed as a reward for teams who have played well, giving them an extra game. It's essentially for the thousands of kids who won't have the opportunity to go play in the NFL.
And why should Greedy be faithful to the LSU fans if they aren't faithful to him. He makes one decision that many people say is best for his future and he goes from "being one of your favorites this decade to getting filed under ‘Arden Key’". It's so fricking hypocritical.

It sucks he isn't playing and I'm disappointed this is where college football is headed with non playoff bowls and players sitting out, but you can't possibly blame him.

You ask a great question.
This game is bigger than every game after Alabama, for sure.
While risk is a real issue, a big reason some players decide to skip the bowl game is because they want to start getting their money now. Waiting a month and a half is asking too much. Nobody wants to talk about that.

Totally agree. Asz the coach, I'd say ok, that's fine, go ahead and stay behind so you can do workouts while we're in Arizona. I don't want you to get hurt getting on or off the plane or get rolled up on on the sidelines watching your teammates play. I'd bet money he'd find that unfair, if you quit on me and your teammates, you can stay home.
Posted on 12/3/18 at 9:12 am to DecadePlusLurker
He played against all of those teams because at the time we still had a chance to make the playoffs.

Whatever man. At the end of the day, this is just an example of team sports in the “me” era. I understand how much money he could lose. But injuries have always been a thing and this “Nahhh, gotta paid but GL guys” shite wasn’t going on 10 years ago. And since the game has only gotten softer while treatment/rehabilitation has advanced by leaps and bounds..... sorry, it’s chickenshit. Call me selfish if you want. It’s more about lamenting the end of the “your team is your family and honor is everything” ethos that team sports are supposedly about in the first place.

Comparing these decisions to players in the "past" hell even 10 years ago is ridiculous. the money wasn't like it is now. It could be almost considered irresponsible to his family to play this game. Playoffs would be different

frick clowney for starting this crap
did fricking Bo Jackson or Deion Sanders skip bowl games? No
The big nose douche from OSU quit on his team halfway through the damn season. Call it dramatic if you will, but this is the type of shite that is ruining the purity of college football.

Oh really? The playoffs would be different? Why? Does he get paid for playing in those games? Does the NFL pay more for CFB title winners? No? So why risk injury? Because you’re a selfish LSU fan?
