Elite QBs win nattys unless you have Bama's Oline so no we are not just a decent OL away from winning a championship

I'd have to disagree with the suggestion here; I think Max is good enough to win if the team around him was solid. Georgia came DAMN close with Fromm, and I think Max is already better than Fromm was.

But yes, we're several factors away from winning a title. You need a running game (let's not forget Clyde was the SEC's leading rusher in 2019), you need a solid and capable defense. And you need luck.

let's evaluate our problems shall we?

-Terrible play calls at times as well as no rhythm for the offense where they regularly rotate WRs, put your hot hands on the bench, and continue to drive a bust RB getting fed the ball when the younger guys actually look better. Almost seems like if you do well you get punished and ride the pine similar to what Miles use to do when someone got hot.

-Max isn't the main problem but his lack of pocket awareness and throwing off his back foot+accuracy is a major problem. He can't throw a deep ball if his life depended on it.

-OL may be historically bad. Not much to be said here.

-LBs are bad. That simple.

-DC doesn't make adjustments in the game which is why UCLA roasted us on defense. Similar to offense he seems to be forcing things where he shouldn't like they play too much zone for a team that's probably better suited for more man.

-Best player on the team is hurt and probably will never play another down at LSU

-S are pretty average but I think we can improve here as the season goes along

-Lots of injuries especially on DL

-No run game

-Inconsistent hands with WRs

-Bad at finding a way to take your best players on offense, move them, create mismatches, then feed them the ball

-Complete lack of discipline on the team top to bottom when it comes to execution and fundamental basics.

I'm sure I'm missing some but the gist of is this team has boatloads of issues. They're not close to a NC team much less top 10. Talent may be there but it doesn't look like it with all the poor coaching going on right now as evidenced how they use them in games. In other words, this team is bad but coaching is doing it no favors.

I agree on offense. Max is actually pretty darned good. We haven't had a decent center since Cushenberry departed. Present center gets pushed back consistently. I don't see linemen getting blocks into the 2nd level and allow LB's to roam freely.

Meanwhile our LB's sit back and are getting blocked 5 yards back where they set up.

Talking with Coach O at a gas station summer 2020, he complained about how our D line wasn't getting enough penetration and that was about to change. Hasn't happened in the least.

O line, qb, rb, defense, special teams

Yep, with just those few improvements, we could be solid

I saw someone post that last night too, and I just don't understand it. If you're good enough to challenge for the SEC, by default you're good enough to challenge for the national title. The top program is Alabama.

Yeah I don’t think I worded that correctly. I meant to say something closer to the effect of “A contender in the SEC alone” not necessarily a National Championship favorite, or even playoff favorite.

Our O-Line is god aweful and we may somehow manage an 8-4/7-5 season

Nope, we need better linebackers and Kiner would have to prove to be a great back which he may be. But, OL is our weakest unit and keeps us from being competitive against teams with a good DL.
