The ribbon boards are above and below our board, though they blend in with the board if you look at the pics posted on here. This leaves us with an actual board size of 25x45. Your board, if I can go by the calculations at the beginning of this thread, displays about 27x37.6 of actual video, with the rest being ads. That equals 1015.2 square feet for your board, and 1125 for ours at Tech. I believe that makes our viewable video actually larger than yours. It's not a huge difference, but it does go against what you said. Our ribbon boards for ads are 4x45 feet.

What pisses me off is certain parts of the screen go black like the pixels went out. It doesn't happen all the time, but usually at some point during the games i will look up and there will be blocks that are just blacked out.

Wow six SEC schools with larger boards than ours. (I take the assumption that larger = better).
Way to pay all that money for something mid-level. Three cheers for the athletic department!!!

No I didn't boom my own comment I must have left my login up somewhere honestly.
But what exactly has the athletic department done wrong that makes them imbeciles? What haven't they thought about? Are we talking about the athletic department that has a sports program regarded as one of the best in the country? I'm just checking because it seems like they're so inept they shouldn't be able to figure out how to continually be as successful as they have been. They're obviously doing something right.

Here was a picture I took during pregame. As you can see the whole board is being used. Why not use half the board during pregame for ads and utilize the whole board during the game??

By my calculations, us folks at LaTech have larger video than you guys too. Sure, your "screen" is larger, but the ads take up so much space that your video is over 100 square feet smaller than ours. :D It's okay to hate me, because we ARE an in-state "RIVAL," right? Oh that's right, we're just in the WAC... Go Dawgs!

You do realize that we’re not saying that the athletic department sucks. Just that their use of the awesome scoreboard they put up sucks.

Isn't there some other way to advertise in that huge stadium? We put in a couple ribbon boards to handle the advertisements in Ruston, so that we'd have the whole videoboard for nothing but video. LSU's got WAYYYYYYYY more resources than we do at Tech, so I'd be surprised if the administration there couldn't come up with some better way to please its fans.
We do have ribbon boards on facades of the upper deck which constantly run ads (scores/stats sometimes, but the majority is ads) as well as back-lit ad boards on the sides of those. We also have more ads on the south endzone fence splitting the upper and lower sections. When it's all running ads, TS looks like a nascar.

Sometimes I think we have imbeciles working in the athletic dept. They don't fricking think.
I know most of you aren't but this is what I was referring to. My bad I forgot to quote.
I just think everyone needs to take in to account the fact that maybe they are reasons that they have the logo that large and that maybe they can't cut them down. If people want a different technology with the ads they need to give the guys time to figure out the different ways to use the board. It's probably an interesting adjustment from the old ones.

If you are going to compare apples to apples, then you need to subtract 135 square feet from your board for your stats line (3'x 45'). So, my statement stands. Even with all the adds, LSU's video section is STILL larger than Tech's. Not to mention LSU has the highest definition that Daktronics makes, HD-12 as opposed to Tech's lower grade HD-16.
I am glad for Tech to finally get their video board. I am sure it is something Tech fans are proud of.

Ahhhhh yes, I didn't realize the number I used for you guys' board was after the stats line had been taken out of the equation. I see now. Ours still LOOKS bigger....... in our smaller stadium. Haha! Oh well, maybe your administration can find a way financially down the line to where they can reduce the ad space on the screen. I know you guys don't care, but I wish we could get a better screen in Independence Stadium, since that's like our alternate home field. That place is BUSH LEAGUE.

So according to what you say, West Monroe High School video replay screen looks bigger than La Tech's?!? Please!

Haha, nope, I'm just kinda making a bit of a jab at my stadium's size, I guess. West Monroe's a hell of a high school program though. LSU and the Saints could both play at the same time in some mythical stadium in Monroe and people would STILL defer and go to the West Monroe high school game instead. Those people are hardcore.

so rather than reading through this whole thread has anyone emailed the athletic department or whoever is in charge asking what the plans are for the board?

MSU's Scoreboard...
Percentage of board use for each item while showing a replay (lsu in parentheses for comparison):
Replay (actual video of the play that just happened) - 77% (35%)
Ads - 16% (55%)
Stats - 7% (9%)

"Thank you for your email. We have some existing multi-year sponsor
agreements in place that require exposure on our scoreboards. We must
honor those contracts at this time. Mississippi State did not have a
pre-existing board and therefore had no advertising restrictions.
The video area we have created on the new north board is considerably
larger than the video area on the south board. And by investing in a
new video panel that covers the entire north board, it gives us
flexibility for video productions we have never had in the past.
The current configuration gives us an opportunity to provide a new video
experience for the fans while honoring our sponsor agreements which
provide tremendous revenue for the athletics program. We always work to
improve the in-game experience for our fans and this new board gives us
the opportunity to improve that experience now and in new ways in the
future.
Thank you for taking the time to write, and thank you for your support
of Tiger Athletics.
