It’s the same people dude, lol.

Every travel ball family has then Tahoe expedition etc. platinum two tone. They all try to compete to see who’s going to be the poorest by 60.

that's an outlier and you know that, but baseball is the worst sport for that logic about size

going d1/pro in football or basketball at 5'8 155 is way harder

Weird. My truck is 14.5 years old with 240k plus miles.

My wife’s suv is paid off and going on 7 years.

I’m good with some sacrifices to help with other expenses in life.

It’s like a lineman that wants to be a F1 racer or jockey.

Outlier to some extent. But his statement went too hard in the paint about a kid he has zero knowledge of.

You are quite literally the exception and you should be proud of that. Bravo.

I really do commend you on this. That is a very high level of self control 99% of people will never have.

Now I know where to go when I need a loan!!!

The Tahoe culture goes far and beyond the travel ball circles.

Two kids that I played little league baseball with went on to pitch in the major leagues. But I didn't even make the high school varsity team.

Clearly there is something wrong with the system. Where was MY college scholarship?

Don’t get me wrong they look nice but I’m not paying 80 large for a Chevy or GMC or for any vehicle for that matter now that I think about it.

Something like 2% of high school baseball players end up on a D1 roster.

But how many coaches are going to tell parents that when they’re floating thousands of dollars for these teams.

You are literally the exception arguing in favor of the rule.

No one would care if the Jeff Bezos-es of the world ended up spending $10 million on their kid’s travel ball career.

But when over 60% of travel ball parents (across all sports) go into debt specifically for travel ball, that is an issue.

No one bats an eye when people criticize others for going into debt over vehicles, traveling, homes (house poor), etc.

Travel sports is one of the few things people get up in arms over defending.

I love the money wasted on club sports
It is INSANE the amount of money that parents waste with travel ball. It’s an absolute money grab.

I’ve coached each of my boys in travel. Now coaching my youngest who is 13. Competing teams / organizations that we regularly drag cost $1,000 - $1,500 a season. We play only Prospect Wire and PG tournaments and it costs $500 tops. All money goes to tournament fees and we still have left over to cover families that are struggling financially.

There’s a small section of families (this is not a broad statement) that doesn’t pay for expensive hobbies for their kids that they can excel in out of selfishness with their money. I see that being a small part in some of the hatred put out. Some a-hole dad’s refuse to pay travel ball monies but he’s got no problem with his 10 year boat note or his upside down diesel note.

The travel ball industry is $40-52 billion yearly industry.

AI:
quote:

?? Percent of High School Boys Who Reach Division I
• Football: 3.4%
• Baseball: 2.7%
• Basketball: 1.1%
These numbers are consistent across multiple NCAA releases (2022–23 and 2024–25), with only minor year-to-year variation.

Being a white D1 basketball player who isn't like 6'8 or above is an incredible accomplishment these days

There is no threads on here ever attacking families and their other normal means of going into debt. It’s travel ball that is singled out constantly.
