If LSU wins, that's what was expected, and the committee was justified in leaving them out.

But if they win... The 8 team playoff talk will only grow louder.

And I for one think 8 is too much.

I kinda Agree

UCF going 28-0 and beating 2 SEC Teams may be what pushes the playoff to 8 teams.

I think Ultimately it will be the commissioners of the leagues that are getting left out regularly complaining that does it, but UCF could push the timeline up.

8 team playoff is inevitable. The only question is how long.

A lot of O hire haters like myself will see this as a win win for their cause. Meaning if LSU loses, reason to bash the hiring of Orgeron. And if LSU wins, we should always beat UCF.

However I’m gonna go on record and state that if Orgeron wins this game, it will be a huge win for him in my eyes. It will prove to me he has LSU headed in a direction to compete for championships. If he loses however, I will be convinced to the contrary.

I don't think many people who make these decisions that matter care about UCF, whether they win or not. I don't think many fans do either.

No matter how they do in a one time game, the question will always remain whether they sniff the playoffs at all playing an SEC West type schedule.

There are people that matter in the Big 10, Big 12 and Pac 10 who are sometimes left out of the playoffs. These power five conferences do have stroke and will make the difference.

The SEC folks in charge don't want 8 teams because that could end the super lucrative SEC championship game.

I would think a lot of SEC teams not named Bama would like to go to eight though.

I don’t mind the 8 team playoff. What I believe this game means more too is fining the non P5 an automatic bid. If Lsu wins the will prob make it 5 P5 champs and 3 at larges.
If UCF wins they would prob lean 5 P5 champs 1 non P5 automatic and only 2 at larges

Money is the key. I believe the 8 team playoff is what was intended from the beginning. They are waiting to make it look like they weren't. TV money drives EVERYTHING now. TV money is the reason games are so long, we can't have kick-off times when we would like them, rule changes that ruin the game, etc. I hope it stays at four so the committee won't turn the selection process into the NCAA Basketball shite show (seeding teams according to TV interest instead of where you belong).

Orgeron is pretty much a 9 & 3 guy. He'll continue to have chances at 10 & 2, but that's about max for him. My dream for 11 & 1 seasons with berths in the 4-team playoff has died (with this regime), so an 8-team playoff would indeed open a door for those of us who have above average, non-elite head coaches like Orgeron.

So beating Miami, GA, Auburn didn’t show you anything. But beating UCF does?

I do not think this is a fair assessment at this time. I am of the opinion that he is finishing his second full season as head coach. One that was 10 points away from being 11-1, while preseason predictions had him going 7-5 or 8-4. One of the losses was a two point defeat in a 7 overtime thriller.Orgeron is owed two more seasons to see what his recruits can do in his system, as far as I am concerned.

The 2020 commitment class currently has 9 verbals. 1 five star and 8 four star guys. This is trending upward and great things are certain to come should all of these young men make it to campus.

It's O's PHILOSOPHY on offense that will prevent him from achieving greatness. He thinks like Les Miles - close to the vest, keep it on the ground and don't fumble, my defense will hold, etc... He barely escaped Auburn with a W. He could've smoked Florida with aggressive, creative offense but instead pussyfooted all game, then found himself behind and we know the rest. He could've taken a 14-point lead at Agricultural & Mechanical; instead he chose to sit on a 7-point lead (in Les Miles fashion). He's above average, nothing more. Don't set yourself up for disappointment expecting too much from this guy.

I am for a 6 team playoff w #1 and #2 getting a bye.

Having said that, it is NOT about the BEST teams, that has only been a "selling point".

It is about enlarging the viewing market, the revenues and the exposure of the "respective CONFERENCES",
thus, I agree that 8 teams are inevitable.

...the first 4 or so positions will likely be legit, but then THERE WILL BE HOLES in the ranking for the other 4.

I promise you that all teams ranked 1-8 WILL not make up the list of the teams playing.

He's had 2 full seasons. Your dreams are unrealistic if you expect 11-1 seasons in the first year or two.

I'm not opposed to 8. I just fear it wouldn't end there. #9 would be controversial every year.

And then it'd be 16, 32, 64- literally half of CFB. 5 total weeks of games including the title game. I don't like that thought.

Make an offer to UCF to join the SEC. Plan on putting them in the West. Then let's see how quick they crawfish back out of any deal to join. No way in Hell do they want any part of the SEC on a weekly basis.
