I was a Freshman at LSU in 1991 which was Curley’s first year. At first everybody was Crazy about Curley but soon would be Curley about Crazy. The football team sucked but we had fun and stayed for full games. I think it was the 1993 season we were riding high at 5-5 and if we could beat Arkansas in the last game of the year we would be invited to the Carquest Bowl. We were going to load up and make the trip. But of course Arkansas beat the shite out of us with I believe 3 different running backs getting over 100 yards each.

Even though it sucked to be an LSU football fan at the time it was pretty damn fun to be a student at LSU at that time.

Not really. They let the name of the restaurant remain the same for a while after he let the bottom fall out in 1999 and got canned. That was more than nice, considering.

Don;t know that I actually watched a half dozen games during those years. Rarely on tv and I could not attend in person. Listened on the radio and read about it in the papers.

Don't remember much discussion about whiffed tackles and porous line-play against inferior teams. I recall us just getting man-handled by superior players and riddled by better offenses.
The only time LSU lacked talent was during the Hallman years. Both Archer before him, and Dinardo afterwards, had studs. All Americans.

Same goes for "superior offenses"; Archer had Tommy Hodson and Dinardo had Kevin Faulk. Both led potent offenses. Now, both coaches did some crazy stupid shite on defense that led to their downfall, but...

Hallman, on the other hand, was the darkest period in program history. Those teams probably wouldn't be competitive in today's Sun Belt conference.
I wouldn't wish the Hallman years on anyone.

That way die hard fans who are dedicated enough to show up at 5am and tailgate all day deserve to be able to tailgate closest to the stadium.

Are you saying that tailgating is the true measure of dedication to LSU? No amount of dedicated tailgating is going to pay for an elite college football program. And LSU can give away tickets and still not fill the stadium for the sweatbox early season creampuff games.

I miss the glory days of tailgating as much as anyone and agree that admin has done everything they can to kill it. What I don't miss is the Hallman/DiNardo dark ages....

Was in Panama visiting family for Christmas and seeing where my mom grew up for this game.

It was the only bowl game shown on the armed forces network that day.

LSU is a popular team with the natives in Panama because back in the day most had to choose a college in a state that the ships would go to Port in.

Only two states were Florida (Miami port) and Louisiana (Nola port)

It's how my mom ended up at LSU.

I get what you're saying. I'm not saying tailgating pays the bills. I'm just pointing out why many people don't attend games and/or leave early these days. The experience today is not the same as the way LSU tailgating used to be back in the day. $$$$ has F--ked it all up. If LSU didn't care about the money they would have preferred parking passes completely surrounding the stadium for a half mile in every direction. They should do it a different way.

Except those of us who endured the later years of Cholly Mac, then the death of Bo, then the semi success of Stovall. The mid to late 80's were very good some years, then the late 80's and Archer's downfall. I still can't understand how he and staff were such bad recruiters. Maybe it was evaluation. But yea, some of these clowns go through what we did in the 90's and they'd have suicide hot lines tied up for years.
