Not sure why the down votes for Lester. It looks very reasonable.

I worry about the lack of returning offensive production. Jones and Milam should be strong. But we will need some of the new guys and transfers (Hernandez, Dickinson, Curriel, Priester, etc) to adjust quickly to the SEC level of pitching
I worry that we will have a lineup full of "good" players, but not enough great ones.
We won the last title because we had several dominant players coupled with a group of really good role players. We need 2-3 guys from the group of Milam, Dickinson, Shores, Eyanson, Anderson, Brown, Jones, Guidry, etc, to step up and play like All-Americans. We need 1-2 dominant pitchers who can be counted on for a W when they take the hill. We need someone to protect Bear in the lineup so they can't pitch around him. We also need power from someone other than the big guy.
What we have is a whole bunch of guys with the potential and physical tools to step up. Will they? Some of that will fall on CJJ.

I just don't want to see our baseball team go 3 and 12 in the first five SEC series like last year.

Schedule is pretty difficult again this year (not quite the last years start) but this team is built to win a lot of games, going to be tough to take 2/3 or sweep us in any series this year with our pitching alone.

Is this team going to have power bats or is this going to be a small-ball offensive approach?

Both, balanced

Plenty of talent, but they may not peak until late in the year which is fine
Yep. Just play our best when it matters most.

1. Dickinson
2. Milam
3. Jones
4. Brown
5. Hernandez
6. Larson
7. Braswell
8. Pearson
9. Stanfield
I think Pearson gets the opening day start but Curiel plays the bulk of the innings.Arrambide will catch a game on opening weekend. Priester will DH a game on opening weekend. Reaves, Frey, and Beck will make an appearance.

Jay Johnson just continues to reload the roster to field very competitive teams year after year.

He's healthy but was still developing in the fall. Started the fall a little slow but got better each week.

It's probably because he is who he is, but yes. You can debate against that lineup, but you'd probably be wrong more than you are correct.
From his list, I think Larson gets a start in LF. C is probably up in the air. And Pearson at DH probably will not finish there, but I could see Pearson in the lineup somewhere on opening day for sure.

Good, we're going to need them all!

Pitching wise, I believe Shores or Guidry start opening day with the other throwing on Saturday. I'll take a stab with:
Fri - Guidry
Sat - Shores
Sun - Anderson
We see a good bit of Ware and Eyanson on opening weekend, too. Tuesday is Wholestaff. Wednesday is Mayers against Nicholls.
I don't think that's how it shakes out long term, though. I think Shores or Eyanson will be the Friday guy. I'm not really sure on a 3rd starter yet. Anderson or Guidry may stick. Ware has big upside. And, you have several other arms that could prove capable.

Remember when you tried to call me out for saying Milam would start at SS?
Posted on 1/21/25 at 9:15 pm to Hold That Tiger 10
No. I said that he didn't spend alot of time at SS like you said. I said that Milam might start at SS but not based on his usage and that it wasn't settled. I stand by that. Both Jay and Milam have mentioned him on the left side but we'll see if it sticks. I'm sure he will get plenty of reps there in spring lead up and maybe even early in the schedule. Again, we'll see if it sticks.

The pitching ceiling is really high. The offensive floor is really high but the ceiling isn't as high as it was in 2023 I don't think. This is a CWS team but it'll take a lot of time to figure out your best 8. Lots of guys will see lots of ABs

If Priester can keep the strikeouts down he will DH. We need his power in the lineup.
Posted on 1/22/25 at 6:16 am to FriscoTiger
There's a lot of swing and miss with Priester but he had a high batting average in the fall. There's too much power there to leave on the bench. His usage is going to be real tricky for Jay. It's going to be interesting to see how Jay manages that.

This doesn't really pertain to the thread, but doesn't deserve its own thread either.
I find it funny that D1 Baseball has loaded their all america first team with ACC guys right when they launch their new ACC extra package.
