This 3rd down Baker play call deserves its own thread.

Straight up diabolical. Just a joy to watch.

He never even tipped that he was coming and their own blockers kind of screened Klubnik from seeing him. Awesome play

Reminds me of the old days...

This works in college because Clemson's RB coming out of the backfield f'd up. The Clemson RB was running to a spot and not reading PJ Woodland. If the Clemson RB immediately turns around as Woodland passes him then Klubnik can hit him for at least a short gain. And Klubnik should have thrown to that spot regardless. At worst it would have fell for an incomplete pass.
You see this in the pros and 8 times out of 10 the defense is getting burned.

Baker is one of the most creative DCs in the business. This season is going to be fun with all of the pieces he has on defense.
He brought a couple of safety blitzes from deep too. Shades of the LaRon Landry days.

No doubt but he's going to have to watch it as teams get film on them. I expect Baker to adjust as other teams adjust.

I'm not trying to be a smart arse. I was just pointing out the counter to this blitz.

Everything has a counter if executed perfectly

Except crane technique. If done right, no defense.

That’s the beauty of the design. Klubnik thinks there’s pressure coming right up the middle and the end lost contain. He rolls to the right which is exactly what Baker wanted him to do. Perfect play call, especially with Perks closing speed.

Baker was fire Saturday night. I just hope he sticks around after the season. He will be a popular coaching candidate.

It's hilarious that Klubnik got sacked by a 170 lb corner.

That's one of the points of blitzing. However, Clemson's lack of experienced RBs really hurt their offense. I don't think any of their RBs understood the pass blocking scheme. Baker made them pay.

I also think the defense on the last drive deserves its own thread. It was still aggressive. They never went away from what was working all game just to go prevent.

That play was doomed even without the CB blitz. The right side of Clemson's line was being pushed back. Clemson ended up with three players within a few yards of each other which created a lot of traffic. Klubnick would not have had time for the traffic to clear. At best he would have scrambled for a very short gain.
The d-line play was fantastic, and with LSU controlling the ball for nearly 3/4 of the game along with a good rotation on the front 4 our Tigers were fresh up to the final 4th down play.
Baker and his staff deserve high praise for the game plan, and the players deserve high praise for execution. It was a joy to watch.

They were locked in on Klubniks tendency to scramble a little early. This doesn't work against a passer that sets their feet and throws to the RB while taking the hit which is kinda the beauty of this call. Baker and the D did their homework. The play works beautifully against a qb that is used to being athletic enough to beat the rusher.

Yeah, Tom Brady is standing in there delivering the ball to the RB and taking the hit from the CB. But Klubnik does not equal Brady.
