Steve’s retirement package is going to be greatly enhanced if the remains as the OC as opposed to what it will be as a tight end coach. If family considerations are going to play a factor, I would think that would be his biggest family consideration.

The truth of the matter is none of us know what Orgeron is gonna do, and most theories are simply projection. The team is winning in spite of the offense, and winning is good, but it's covering up some fundamental flaws. And yeah, the offense is struggling primarily due to a terrible offensive line, which is getting a ton of help next year in two redshirts and three blue chip 2019 recruits, including a 5-star prospect.

But you can't have an offense this bad and expect to keep your job. Now, Ensminger might be able to keep it due to the team record and by making a plea for some continuity... but he's no sure thing to come back. I'm genuinely curious what O will do.

Does anyone here really think an elite coach who sweats every minute detail of a program to get a championship level team would not make a change after one year of this shite show offense?
You may be right. I also think that things are not as easy as they seem on the surface. Firing another OC after one year after just doing the same the year before Looks really bad to recruits. Now, I'm not disagreeing that O put himself in this situation, so he has nobody to blame but himself. But the situation is what it is. So I'm looking at what's best for the program going forward.

I have seen some coOC situational changes. Maybe that's not a bad idea. Bring in a coOC next year, then let him take over after that. Everyone wins. We get innovation on offense, plus it doesn't look bad to recruits.

His offense will be much improved next year with

-healthy & cohesive OL
-Burrow for a full offseason
-new RB toys
-Chase & Marshall emergence

Why does it have to be one or the other?

We have OL issues, as do a lot of teams.

We also have a scheme issue.

Both can be true.

One of those things you can control.

No offense, but don't you think that if you need an assistant to help your OC scheme then you might have a problem with your OC in the first place.
Yes.

I would think the right hire would negate the negatives of making another change. IDK. It just seems to me why delay the inevitable if something isn't working. And E at OC clearly isn't working.

Again, with a viable OC, we're sitting at 1 (dare I even say none?) losses and we're still not only the middle of playoff discussions, but deservedly in that discussion without every member of the sports community putting a big fat asterisk on us because of our (yet again) putrid offense.

Either way, we should support SE if he's here another year.

OK. Support him. What does that mean to you, exactly? Support him when the team struggles against SELU and La Tech and an awful Arky defense? That what you mean?

We did it after 2017 also.

That's possible. But it also shows instability. People have even pointed out on here how much of a clown show we look like by firing all of these coordinators.

So IMO, we get the best of both worlds. Bring in a coOC or analyst first. Then promote them after next year. That is the path that the current Alabama OC took. It can be a formula for success.

I can agree with you on the fact that offensive success starts with the O line. From there, it is on the OC. If he knows we are getting beat in the trenches, it is his job to adjust to what the defense is bringing. On paper, I am sure Steve has great plays drawn up. Where he falls short is where he does not make any adjustments.

Yeah, and guess what? I don't have to be a rocket scientist to know something went terribly wrong with the space shuttle Challenger.

I don't care what O and E do to fix the problem. I don't care what the actual problem is. What I see is the results, and a 104 ranking in anything is unacceptable. If they can't fix it, it doesn't matter what the problem is, does it? And it certainly doesn't matter if fans can't diagnose the problem. We aren't getting paid bank to fix it.

I understand what you're saying. And no. I'm not saying that we don't call out shortcomings.

I just think there's a high chance he stays another year. So let's do what we can to support that situation.

Ordinarily I would agree with you that stability is key. Hell, I even argued for keeping E another year up until about half time of the Bama game for that very reason: that we needed to give him time to get his system in place and having 3 different OCs in as many years is tough.

But my sentiments have changed. He's not the guy and if we're going to do some sort of analyst situation, he needs to be the analyst and we need another OC altogether.

If we have a new OC it’s because he retired. I doubt he retires.

We could have lost every game this year and Ensminger would not have been “fired”. He would have “stepped down”. Do t fool yourselves for one minute into thinking it’s a guarantee that Ensminger is the OC next year.
