There was nothing wrong with Tommy swinging 3-0

...the only bad thing about it was the result.

IIRC, we were down a run in what was likely going to be his last AB and the pitcher had just given up a tank, so yeah, you should always give one of the best power hitters in the game the green light there.

Sometimes outs like that happen but you got to live with it, thankfully it didn't matter.

Ok to swing 3-0 when it’s a strike

I mean maybe swing if it’s a reasonable pitch.

You have to give Tommy the green light in that situation. Is what it is, move on.

You think it's that easy to recognize?

Unless it's sure to produce a base hit, swinging away on a 3-0 count is always stupid

That's some flawed hindsight logic.

You know what pitch is coming. Why give the pitcher a free strike?

You never swing on a 3-0 count in late innings down a run.

Never ever ever ever. Anyone saying it was ok doesn't know baseball.

Now his coach might cover for him publicly but there is no way Johnson thought that was a good idea.

If it's a fastball right down the middle maybe. But it wasn't a fastball or even a strike. You can't swing 3-0 just for the hell of it in that situation.

Can’t swing 3-0 in that situation with no one on & lsu needing base runners

While I agree, given the circumstances that we had not put ANY pressure on them all game, and it FINAlLY felt like a moment we could have, it felt like a take to me.

But not a big deal, totally understand giving TW the green light there

I will never say anything bad against Tommy White… dude is awesome and I don’t care if he goes 0-5 tomorrow he’s still awesome

Lol, if there was ever a time to have the green light on, it was that situation... the dude just gave up a tank to Braswell and we needed one run to tie in the 8th inning.

If he connected on that 3-0 pitch, you'd be talking about how awesome it was that he had the green light there. You're letting hindsight cloud your judgment.

LSU needed one run and was running out of outs. Tommy sitting fastball there is probably our best opportunity to score at that point.

Again... ol' boy just gave up a tank.

Braswell had just homered, a base runner with no outs outs tremendous pressure on them.

I am liberally in favor of green lights but not there. You hold the rope & move the line

Jones homered the next AB & Milam also gets an AB in the inning if White takes a walk. The two guys who had the best at bats today

It’s the sign of a good team when you win in spite of your best hitter having a bad day at the plate.

This speculative decision is purely on the coaching. They either give him the green light and deal with the risk/reward result or they take matters into their own hands and have him take 3-0. A hitter is going to react to the best of his ability at the given moment. It’s horrific times and heroic at times but if it’s to be controlled it’s on the coaches.

Not placing blame on either or taking an opinion on what I think should have happened—its just one or the other.
