The guys not drafted in the first couple of rounds wont be taking home much money after taxes and agent fees. Add to the fact most players dont make it to the second contract, they will all be looking for other jobs in the next few years

I think you need to put things in perspective.

Making it in the NFL is extremely difficult no matter if you are an early departure or you stay through your senior year "which puts the health issue in play about getting hurt"

Next if you do make a roster, and if you are drafted your chances are higher than if you aren't drafted, your minimum salary is $405,000.00. I don't know about you but making close to a half a million dollars for the season is more than 99% of students who graduate their first year on the job. And if you make the practice squad for the entire year you are still talking about $102,000.00

Anyway you slice it even with paying agents and taxes those are still really good numbers. So it is hard to fault those guys wanting to make money at the trade they want to make money in.

It's up to the coaches and administration to create a culture where leaving early simply isn't acceptable.

As I said in the other thread and the one before. Both lines will be dismantled, secondary will be young and inexperienced.

We will have an even younger team next year and the SEC West is getting better and more experienced.

Oh that is the ticket why didn't I think of that.

Tell players it isn't acceptable to ply the trade and get paid for the obvious trade you came to learn at LSU.

That makes complete sense!!!

Both Kwon and Hunter are undersized. At least one of hawkins and Alexander will come back. Same for Mills and collins.

Those are the two most likely to leave!

I sure hope they see what that extra year for Collins did, he will be one of the first tackles off the board. I personally think he will be the 2nd tackle taken.

I hope Mills stays his leadership is invaluable to the team especially if Kwon leaves.

Thanks for cheering me down.

With all that to replace, I guess we are 8-4 again next year.

Think about that for a minute, it's truly depressing. Think how horrible our line play was early on.

The interior lines on both sides of the ball both improved dramatically this year. Good god guy....but then, you were on here predicting 4-8 after Auburn, so I'd expect some dumb shite from you.

Hunter should consider this very carefully. a lot of a DEs production comes from DT pressure up the middle. we had none early this year, and its steadily developed. Next year it should be vastly improved.

Hunter could put up sick numbers (along with much higher draft status) with DTs that can collapse the pocket.

quick. someone find Hunter and drop this logic bomb.

I think the defense is going to be lights out. Will be great up the middle and LSU always has speed on the outside. If Robinson gets his act together and comes back, that will only add to an incredible secondary anchored by white and adams....among others....linebacker should be beastly again, even if kwon goes....interested to see garrett and how he progresses and where....

on offense, IF we get alexander and Hawkins back, the Line will be very, very good as well...we know about LF and the incoming guys, along with Williams....dural should return, and the wr's will be much better....the only question is obviously qb...and I just can't see us being any worse there.....could be an interesting year.

Something has to be done about these early departures. How is it that it seems LSU is the only program affected by this negatively? It's getting ridiculous. You can't build championship teams if these kids leave early for the money. BAMA has got to be paying their players. I used to think it was crazy but now I'm beginning to wonder.

both Rasco and Hunter have played exceptional this year.
I infer you throw around "exceptional" very casually. If they were "exceptional," they they would be winning some individual awards, yet neither will be on the radar for awards. They have both been average at best. "Exceptional" defensive ends get several sacks at the very least.

If Hunter enters the draft this year, he will never make an active roster in the NFL. He does absolutely nothing great. NFL practice squads are loaded with aspiring players with big arms.

show me a list of active NFL DEs or OLBs who had equal or fewer sacks in their final year in college.

Can't blame them for wanting to get paid

especially now that there's not as big money in the rookie contract, and more in the 2nd contract. Guys realize the NFL stands for Not For Long.

Sucks.

That is just not true.

Tre White, Jamal Adams, Ricky Jefferson all have big time experience and play at a very high level. Plug in Ed Paris, Dwayne Thomas, etc. and that unit will be very good again.

This is assuming Rashard leaves school due to actually having to attend school while at LSU.

Both have been good in run defense but very average is pass rushing. The pros want pass rushers. Its just that simple.

Scary part is, their backups weren't good enough to get any meaningful minutes this year.

The DTs will be great next year though and that is HUGE. Our defense has smaller faster linebackers that can help contain the edges and it REALLY helps to have run pluggers.

wtf.....the OL COULD lose most of it, or it COULD come back with 3 starters, and several really promising young guys. I think what grimes is doing there is going to pay dividends.

On defense, this is where you shite the bed. The line, especially the interior line, will be beastly. You do realize one of our best was a tf this year....up the middle should be outstanding with beckwith clogging the middle...and our secondary, even without robinson is going to be outstanding. White and Adams alone are all-American type players....throw in robinson and a host of others, and this secondary will be elite, again.....what drugs are you on to call the secondary young and inexperienced.....there is also a chance Collins or mills comes back...along with robinson....good god.

yep, up the middle will be great with our dt's and beckwith and hopefully garrett. LSU always has speed on the outside....and the secondary will be lethal... I honestly think this has the potential to be a 2011 type defense, if just a few progress and Valentine is cleared.....Adams is going to be special.
