The top 10 defensive backs in college football for 2019 is headlined by LSU

quote:
1. Grant Delpit, LSU (Jr.)
LSU's defensive star stuffs the run, has a nose for the football — he tied for the SEC lead with five interceptions in 2018 — and can even rush the passer. In short, Delpit can do it all. The reigning consensus All-America pick pegs to be even better as a junior.
quote:
3. Kristian Fulton, LSU (Sr.)
Fulton's a bit of a wild card due to his overall lack of experience; he went through hoops to regain his eligibility after joining LSU in 2016 and has just one full season of SEC play under his belt. But Fulton flashed the sort of talent base as a junior that makes him not just one of the top defenders in the country but one of the great rising talents at any position.
USA Today
2 of the Top 3 and Stingley the #1 CB (#1 overall player by rivals) lining up on the other side and former #1 safety Stevens in the mix makes this one of the most impressive defensive backfields in LSU history.
If the front 7 can generate even modest pressure on the QB we should see a significant rise in turnovers. I predict this will be one of our best defenses ever generating turnovers.

Yep that’s whats crazy about it, Stingley will be at least top 25 by mid year and I’d argue Kary Vincent is one of the best nickel/slot corners in the country.

Tua is gonna be wanting to run the ball every down.

If Stingley or Delpit can come close to being the game-changer TM7 was, this team is likely winning a natty.

If Chaisson can stay healthy and our Dline can get up field, the sky is the limit. Chaisson, Lawrence and one of either Shelvin or Ika, will decide if our defense is really good or legendary.

This D line will stop the run enough to force passing situations. I would not want to have to line up against that D especially on 3rd and long.

I think if Chaisson hadn't gone down in the 1st game we finish 12-1 last season.

Patrick Queen too. Will start this year and if he can take a big step forwards like divinity did last year, our linebacker group will be better then any other in the nation
Philips
Chassion
Divinity
Queen

I’m excited to see what Stevens can do this year. Is this the first year he has an offseason dedicated to the position he’ll actually play that year?!

Stingley will blow onto the scene like Greedy did his Fr year
I’d bet he picks the first ball thrown his way

Patrick Queen looked way better in the UCF game than he did against Alabama in that first half. I was impressed. Goes to show Aranda can coach ‘em up.

I actually didn’t think Queen did bad against Bama. I do think he did significantly better against UCF.
Btw I think LSU will have 3 players on this list by the end of the season.

Queen had some interesting moments. Especially vs Florida on a few drives. He would be in the whole, make a good play and just miss the tackle. He's athletic just need experience.
But everyone on the planet should look better vs UCF than they do against Alabama.

Maybe I’ll go look at some highlights but from what I remember of my initial thoughts after the game I thought they exposed our line way more than Queen. I remember one of the commentators saying Queen was one of the only bright spots in the game on the post game show. I don’t know if I would go that far.

quote:Yea basically every positive play they had was right at Queen and he was too tentative to make a play. Somehow he was credited 9 tackles for piling onto guys.
Queen was one of the only bright spots in the game
