The SEC is not about to toss out the 11th most powerful brand in college football.

They just want to try to put us in our place. I don't think they have any real desire to kick us out.

Just seems like an extreme line to cross if it’s just “putting us in our place”. Especially when it’s not exactly clear what rules have been broken. Are we going to the principles office for being a little cocky and having a loud mouth during interviews? Seems extreme.

It absolutely will, during the meeting on September 10th.
The suit they filed has an amendment added to it, as of today, to have their legal authority recognized to do exactly that.
Court says “yes”, SEC Presidents and Sankey get rid of a school that won’t goose-step and fall in line with their 501(c)3 volunteer organization.
Court says “no”, SEC gets the benefit of the “that happened months ago” argument.
The SE. could be about to nuke the NCAA because they are seeking legal institutional control of the membership of their entities on the basis that the NCAA can’t self-govern.
They are posturing for themselves to be self-sufficient as a college athletics governing body in a post-NCAA world.
One that will not allow collective bargaining among student athletes.

It's already been reported that regardless of how the vote pans out, the SEC has no intention of following through.
Plus, the vote seems like a long shot anyway.
