re: The sale of alcohol in Tiger Stadium

It doesn't really matter to me but if you ever go into the stadium in the bowl go all the way to the top and see if the buildings are connected. They are separate structures. If the bowls were blown up then they upper decks would be standing on those big arse columns you see outside.
Right...so when LSU gives it's attendance numbers, they are actually lying...it would be like including the rooftops of the apartment building across from Wrigley Field. Since neither Upper Deck actually touch the stadium, and apparantly are designed as such to allow for this alcohol loophole (at least in part) then it seems a pit hypocritical to include those numbers as attendence...

I go to UNM and they don't allow it whatsoever. We even have pigs patrol the tailgating section to pop underagers before, during, and after the game. Not only that, you are NOT allowed to leave for any reason at halftime. If you do, you have to buy a new ticket. All this BS keeps student attendance waaaay down. I have so many friends who are true football and lobo fans but will leave after the game starts to go to local house parties/bars to continue expressing their American given right to consume copious amounts of liquor. And for what it's worth, I'm 29 and all my friends are my age. Yet, we even leave for many games. Plus, we're the freaking Lobos so we are usually .500 at best. But I guarantee if I could watch a 42-35 Mountain West shootout while nursing a beer I would stay for sure.
What I do know is that every day we are having our inherently granted liberties stripped to "protect" other "free" Americans from being offended.
There are so many ways to regulate the sale of alcohol. Carding people at entrance if they think they are going to drink, stamping people for every beer served, or if someone is too wasted don't let them enter at all.
The ironic thing here is that most students are already liquored up to their satisfaction on entrance and probably only want two or three beers per game to act as a chaser for their flask or just keep their buzz "just right."
Ok, I'm done. Thanks for listening. Oh and for what it's worth... I've converted two new sexy female LSU fans in the last year alone! haha. That's doing your part.

The issue of the upper decks being structurally part of Tiger Stadium came about as a result of a state law prohibiting private entities like TAF owning more than 12 percent of the tickets. If the new east upper, and subsequent west upper, were deemed separate, TAF could own those seats and avoid the 12 percent rule.
Alcohol was not the main issue of that debate.

theres a way around any rule. and those loopholes are almost always reserved for the "elite". money talks my friend

Without getting into a pissing match - all I'll say is one day, hopefully, you will reach an age where you will look back at comments like these and think:
"Jesus Christ, what the frick was I thinking"

Thankfully we have enough "elites" funding LSU athletics. We'd be stuck in the 90s with cheap coaches and facilities.

i do agree with the underage drinking thing though. We started being like florida at the end of last year with all the bike cops riding around. If you are in college, behaving, and not causing a scene then it is a douche move by a cop to write a MIP. Just my opinion though.
If you are creating a disturbance it is an entirely different matter

like i said, rules just like the law are for sale
Posted on 8/21/09 at 10:22 am to josh336
I think IMO they should sell beer everywhere but near the student section and stop at halftime.

And people like you benefit.

sure i benefit from the support for our program, but i dont think allowing everyone the same priviledges as the upper ranks will cause them to yank all funding

It has nothing to do with them. Why would LSU want to assume the liability of serving alcohol with thousands of underage students in the stadium? It will also increase fights. Unlike the suites, there is no way to adequately control this.
This is not going to happen at LSU.

do you really believe that there arent any drunks in tiger stadium at any given game? they could already be held liable for insufficient security

Not at all Rummel. It surprises me you would say that actually. Louisiana is known across the country as being unique in that it tends to pride itself a little more on facilitating civil liberties. Most states have lossed that. It's with everything in society just about. It's been a gradual change from how it was in the 80's. And from what I've read it goes way further back. But, as you said, I'm young.
I do see the point you're trying to make. My drinking habits whilst attending games at ages 18,19,20, versus 24,25,26 and even nowadays (i turn 30 on the 7th. damnit) have changed greatly. But, thinking back to when i was 18... I was still getting drunk like everyone and most of us just wanted to have a beer to nurse to keep our drunkeness throughout the game. Also, it's hard to sneak stuff into a Lobo game. They pat you down, and search your chica's purse. I don't know how they do it in my home state of louisiana 'cause I've been out here far too long but I'm assuming they don't search through your lady's bag. Can anyone comment on this?
In regards to my "pigs" comment. Well, I'd say 9 out of 10 interactions with cops in APD (Albuquerque Police Department) are disgusting. 9 out of 10 of our piggies are corrupt, disrespectful, abusive (both physically and mentally), and arrogant. I kind of assumed that was most everywhere. Although, I have problems related to the cops out here as well being from Louisiana. The culture here is crazy different. However, I have noticed that Southern cops tend to be easier to get along with. From my limited experiences with them if you initially show them respect they will be very respectful. Here, the cops, and the population in general, think you are up to something or devious if you show someone respect right away. As I said the culture is different.

So seriously. Not flaming. TS is actually considered two seperate structures? I know about stadiums and boxes and alcohol but I didnt know the upper deck(s) was considered an entity to itself.
Interesting, Maggie get Mal on the phone....I want to talk to his arse now.

i do see your point with it being confined to the suites though. i just think that there are other fans that are just as roudy as ours and we shouldnt be treated like drunken fighting idiots.

its still a lot cheaper to sneak it in
and sneaking it in was part of the LSU ritual when I was a student back in the sevnties.
It was a lot easier then with a lot less security.
We didn't have to have a ticket, just showed our ID. We got in line outside the stadium at 3pm for a 7:30 game and had to bring enough to last til the game was over. Pretty much needed at least a quart for yourself and a quart for your date. A lot of us wore boots for this purpose.

For purposes of getting around an existing state law, yes. Technically , it's three ... lower bowl, east upper and west upper. The 12 percent law applies to the lower bowl.

its easy to sneak liquor in still...those airline type bottles...they sell coke all night long. cant sneak beer in so the harder stuff comes in.
