I see reference to the quote on a 2004 Auburn scout board link, last post then, but I don't have a subscription.

I had a want to validate that quote and that's why I started searching and, while not coming across the exact quote that's been passed around yesterday and today, I did come across the ones I linked to that I found interesting.

What controversy?

I was referring to LSU beating Bama vs Bama beating LSU. If LSU wins...no controversy. If Bama wins, the shite hits the fan.

Again... if its supposed to DECIDE a 1 vs 2, that's already happened. The best that can happen now if LSU should happen to lose to Bama, is a complete 1 to 1 split. Undecided. As in, NOT what the BCS claims to want avoid.

nfortunately in football, the game is so physical, you don't have the luxury of playing 25 game schedules that would really sort out who was best.

Agreed... but in this case, a split of wins between LSU and Bama would be, to me, the exact OPPOSITE result of what the BCS claims to have been established for. It just seems that would be avoided by all involved if they have any power to do so.

for someone who crusades against innate human bias as much as you do, why are you knighting for Bama?

did you take the blind test on the CBS website?

Um, no. It's the OPPOSITE of a beauty contest. It's how good they actually are.

BeauxPete, I have not seen a link to validate that quote. But I'm looking.

Why would he have ever said that? It wasn't like there were weeks of debate about OU getting in....there were only a couple of hours between OU losing to KState and the announcement that OU and LSU were playing in the BCSCG, and it was very clear at that time that LSU would be ranked ahead of OU by the voters anyway.

And he certainly wouldn't have said it after the matchup was announced, why give OU bulletin board material for no reason?

There's precisely a 0% chance that Saban ever said that publicly. His very obvious proclivity is to say the most politic thing possible. You could even see it on Saturday. It killed him, you could tell, but he still said something nice about LSU and didn't say anything controversial. Compare that with the ultimate douchebag team - Carroll and Leinart. The former says "I think we just won a national championship" DAYS before LSU and OK play. The latter says "the better team didn't win" - even as you can see the national champion Texas Longhorns dancing around in the background.

Not based on the schedule each team has played. Funny how you left that out.

Every sign at Gameday should have the quote by Saban. May be the best shot of swaying voters.

something like this....."Anyone who doesn't win their conference has no business playing in the national championship game." Saban 2003

Need to prove that he said that before putting it on a sign. I don't remember him saying that and I am no Bama/Saban apologist.

Given Saban's history of, um...stretching the truth, why would you attach any legitimacy whatsoever to his words?

Not only is it completely unlike any public statement Saban's ever made, but even if he were more loose in his statememnts there was never a situation where saying something like that would be relevant.

OU lost to Kansas State on Saturday night. OU/LSU was announced as the matchup the following morning. The only time to say it would've been in post-SECCG interviews, and it was obvious that every single voter was going to have LSU in front of OU at that point anyway.

"[A]ll the factors need to be taken into consideration. Strength of schedule is a really significant factor. I'm not saying TCU doesn't play as good a people as we play; I'm just saying that there are checks and balances for that. It is much more difficult to compete week in and week out when you play a lot of good teams rather than just having to get up for just one or two games. That's where the consistency in performance comes in." LINK

Saban is right. That quote personifies why Oklahoma State would deserve to go to the BCSCG over Alabama if the Cowboys beat OU.

Do you honestly think they are not better than all the other teams?

Does not matter. If we beat them in the SEC Championship game and we're #1 and #2 (i know - it's not possible, but stay with me) would there be a rematch for the BCS title? Of course not. So what's the difference? Timing?

Alabama played 2 good teams all year.

And they lost 1 at home.

This is getting into Boise State territory.
