Assuming Canada gets full control of the Offensive personnel decisions, the QB depth chart entering into next spring is Etling, Harris, Scott, etc. I would think competition opens up. Other than his mental approach, we all know Harris has a lot of upside physically. This could be Harris' chance for with a new OC known for implementing a system based on personnel. Myles Brennan (if he inks with LSU) would get a shot but I'm thinking redshirt for Myles. Narcisse is going to Auburn. I'm pretty much conceding that.

Thoughts?

I think Harris' days are done at LSU. If you watch a lot of Canada's offense, it's about putting the ball on the money in short passes and shovel passes. Harris just lacks a lot of touch. He's a "f-it throwing it deep" kind of QB. Don't think Canada wants that at all.

New OC with control should mean competition is open.

I tend to agree, but maybe he thinks he can fix it?

Idk, I just hope we get Brennan and Akers with this hire.

Sometimes I wonder why people want Harris to start so bad. He's not the better qb yet there is a thread about it daily.

I think most of BH's problems were in his head. Not sure how much our OC can do to fix that at this point

Come on man. I'm not saying Harris should start. My only point is that he will compete in the Spring and Fall with a new OC implementing a scheme based on personnel. I'm certainly not saying he'll beat out Etling either.

Because he's an elite physical talent. He has an NFL arm, athleticism, size, etc.

He's just been a bad QB. Maybe a new OC in a new system can fix him? Idk.

ETA:

He's also a very smart kid IRL. So its not that he's dumb, I think he just panics or something. Maybe the new OC will get him a xanax prescription

I seriously doubt it ever really shuts down offseason. If it stays status quo, it means other QBs didn't do enough.

Not saying Canada can't help him with it, but Harris short accuracy problem isn't due to any system.

I am always amazed at the infatuation with velocity while totally ignoring accuracy. What is the point of being about to throw the ball through a brick wall that you cannot hit?

Etling was born to play in Canada's offense

Yeah, but that still doesn't mean Harris gets a look.

Here's the scenario Canada walks into:

Keep Etling, returning senior starter, to maximize the success in 2017 for an offense with Guice and Chark returning (both of those guys will be featured weapons, and will leave after 2017).

or

Elevate Scott, McMillan (he's on roster and an underclassman), or a freshman, and build for the future. Doing so risks messing up Guice and Chark's last season, but you do get a head start on 2018.

or

Move Harris back to starter. Least likely; you risk messing Guice and Chark's production up, but you aren't building for the future since Harris is a senior.

If Scott is as solid as people have stated, I wouldn't be surprised if Harris either transfers, or drops to 3rd or lower.

He is a diamond in the rough that Miles and crew didn't have the skill set to cut and shine

THIS!!! Jesus, it's not his physical ability that has held him back. It's his mental ability

because Harris has the most arm talent by far on the team. Unfortunately for him, the brain is as important or more important. That doesn't mean he's dumb; he's just not yet mentally ready for big time football.

I don't know that we've seen Harris's potential. The guy hasn't had a competent QB coach since he's been here. Hopefully Canada can coach all of our QBs up and we can have a healthy QB competition in spring ball.
