Is it possible that the Pirates pass on Crews due to Boras being his agent? They may not want to pay a huge contract even though there are slot values.

It's very possible. It depends on if they can come to an agreement prior to the draft. They may want to go under slot and spend more on other players. It's not terribly uncommon. The Astros drafted Carlos Correa #1 when Byron Buxton was the consensus top prospect. They used the money they saved to draft Lance McCullers JR away from his commitment to the Gators. Worked out well for Houston.

Yeah, this won’t last lol. Idk what their plan is for the future, but for the past 20 years it hasn’t been “compete”.

Half of their staff will be picked up by teams that do actually compete. It's the Pirates plan every season.

Crews, kinda an enigma. I thought he'd be more of a slugger with an average in the mid-lower 300%, not chasing .500% with a ton of walks.

He’s solely getting breaking balls low and outside of the plate for a reason. The reason being if he gets any fastball anywhere close to his hitting zone, it is annihilated ala Saturday against Ole Miss. He has tons of power.

McDonald has said several times that Crew's best attribute is his bat speed. Off the charts & "power will always be there with that kind of bat speed." His numbers of K's has dropped significantly, from last year, and a big reason is White batting behind him; and a big reason White is leading the country in RBI's.

As amazing s Crews is, its hard to imagine someone passing up on Skenes for a position player.

It’s been a. While since a pitcher was first overall and you have to go back to Gerritt Cole to find a 1st overall pitcher who has made an all star team

I think they would rather him in the minors getting 4-5 ABs/game instead of pinch hitting once a game or every other game in the bigs.

In September, that won’t make any difference.

Position players are on average more of a sure thing than pitchers. Top picks go to position players quite often.

True. The pirates will be 26 games out of first.

Is there any precedent at all for drafting a player in MLB and having that player make the show that same season that was in progress when the draft took place?

Dave Winfield went straight to the majors.

What world do you live in where these are the only 2 options?

Can you read? People who can read know Crews is the most likely player to be picked #1.

That’s just what the scuttlebutt down at the speak easy is. Some of the boys hopped a train to see him play up Baton Rouge way. Say he plays like Cobb but not so damn mean.

Haha!
I read about him on this site, which is not a source of reliable information when it comes to objectivity.
Where else would I even know about him?
It’s not like college baseball is talked about very many places.

I used to read Baseball America online before they made you pay.

You’re not giving this place enough credit. There are some googans, but there are some dudes with their thumb firmly on the pulse of LSU athletics and all that entails.

Crews is a lock to go top 3.

Googans. Haha!
I don’t follow college baseball other than on this site.
The guy is super hyped here so I asked.

The player who has been compared to mike trout since his 1st day on campus is going to get drafted by the east coast version of the angels. Poor guy won’t sniff the playoffs until he hits free agency.

LSU and we fans were quite lucky he even made it to campus. He’s got bat control and speed like nobody we’ve had before. Plus, he seems to be a rock solid cat off the field, respects the game, and has a solid demeanor about him.

Good things happen to good people sometimes, and he is about to get PAID.
