The Pirates have the #1 pick and will presumably take Dylan Crews.

They are also 16-7, off to their best start in years. It would be awesome if he went to a franchise like them that is hopefully in the midst of a resurgence. Those Pirate teams back when I was a kid were legit.

Not that I EXPECT him to be on a playoff roster this fall, but imagine having a surprise year if you’re Pittsburgh, maybe making the playoffs… and you have the option of plugging in Dylan frickin’ Crews if you so desire…the rich get richer.

I’d be happy with Pittsburgh

Great city and fans and an awesome hitter friendly ballpark. The only issue is the owner doesn’t spend money

I guess this post can apply to Paul Skenes as well, should they decide they need to draft a hoss pitcher.

Yeah, this won’t last lol. Idk what their plan is for the future, but for the past 20 years it hasn’t been “compete”.

I get it, long season. There is ALWAYS a surprise team in MLB.

My Rangers are the team in the AL, Pirates look to be the surprise in the NL so far.

We’ll see…

One spent money to become that surprise team. One had a nice schedule to set up the year

I'd be surprised if Crews doesn't go first, even with how good Skenes is. Crews would start in CF for many teams in the MLB today.

Only way for the Pirates to be successful is have the same type of system as the Rays. Which means they may or may not pay Crews when it comes to the second contract.

Is there any precedent at all for drafting a player in MLB and having that player make the show that same season that was in progress when the draft took place?

Not that Dylan can't set the precedent because I think we know he can.

Either would be understandable/justified as the #1 overall, depends on what your team needs. Crews is likely to have a much longer career though.

I hope somehow the Rangers can get Crews or Skenes at 4.. I might actually start watching them again.

Man, I miss those old Pirate’s caps. We were the pirates one year in little league when they had the cool ones - flat top, horizontal stripes, really cool. Like these:

Xavier Nady did from Cal to the Padres. Crews is better than him, but there are many factors that could sway their decision either way obviously.

I don’t see either falling to the 4th pick. There are some quality SEC guys this year they could take at 4 though.

reminds me of Stargell, when they broke out those caps he would award stars for good plays like stickers on a football helmet, he would also take them away for bonehead plays

Yea...I mean if whoever drafts Crews is happy with their CF in this season then they aren't going to take a chance on bringing him up I wouldn't think. Now if that CF is just a decent glove that can't hit I'd say they might make a move on him.
