The NFL needs to start a minor league

College football is not a minor league for pro football even though everyone acts like it is. It isn’t set up to to benefit the player or the school when players bolt the second they face adversity that may hurt their own stock. Most end up obliterating any chance to further develop and almost never end up panning out professionally. Look at Malachi Dupre as a prime example.
The NFL needs to do the right thing and invest in a minor league so players who want to solely focus on playing pro ball can skip college and go there. Then the kids who want to actually play college football can play college football. And we don’t have to worry about good players just bolting mid season or only two or three years into their career. I am an LSU fan. I don’t blame the kids for doing what’s best for them on a practical level but it still pisses me off as a fan when individuals put themselves above the team. It totally turns me off to sports. It turned me off to pro basketball and it’s turning me off to football year by year.
Prima Donna’s used to be sort of a rarity or they put on a good public face. Now selfishness in sports is basically celebrated. It’s just making me question why I’m even watching if the best players barely care about the team.

Actually, I agree with this and think it would have benefits on many levels.

Why, cfb is free to the owners and you know they would kill their children for a dollar..

This is a story in your head, and not reality

Diminish the value and prestige of college football? Nah son.

What do you actually want? Kids who are just playing for fun? Club teams?
The schools get an arse load of money out of this. Kids want to get paid at some point.

College football to step back about 30 years. This quasi minor league it’s become is less interesting every year.

Nobody owes these kids a damn thing. Colleges don’t owe them a scholarship or a roster spot and certainly, the NFL doesn’t owe them a developmental league. Playing professional football isn’t a right.

Watch division 2.
Idk what to tell your
Do you think LSU would be better without:
Jefferson, Moss, Charles, CEH, Chase, Marshall, CEH, Guice, Fournette, Trai Turner, Phillips, White, Queen, Peterson, Claiborne, Reid, Delpit, Chaisson, greedy Williams, Kevin Minter, Brockers, Mingo, and Montgomery?
Would you prefer to watch the team
Without them?

one anecdotal example doesn't prove anything Plenty of 4-5 year guys don't pan out, you really think 1 more year of college ball would have helped Dupre

Then get ready for some bad LSU teams and bad CFB from top to bottom.
If you think this LSU team is bad, wait until you field a group that couldn’t make it into the minor league.

This would be the end of good college football, the only sport I and many are really interested in. So I think this would be a terrible idea.

Has one, college football
Professional sports are a scourge on amateur sports. Curt Flood 'fought' MLB but in doing so he opened Pandora's Box and everything sports has gone to poop and back

The problem with your idea is no one would watch it or care about it, so there wouldn't be any money in it with which to pay the kids in the first place.

Been saying this for years.
Elite players that need $$$ more than an education should be allowed to go straight from HS to NFL minor league.
Could effectively end the whole 5-star cesspool of recruiting as well.

Exactly, let all of these world class athletes go directly there and give scholarships to kids who earn them academically that can also play

quote:would completely destroy major college football. And would cost the NFL a lot of money, compared to now where it’s free for them.
The NFL needs to start a minor league
It won’t happen.
