I love it when we need 10 yards for a first after consecutive options that didn't work and we throw the ball for 5 yards...

We run shotgun 70% of the time, yet on a crucial play like that, we have Jarrett Lee behind center, dropping back, when T-Bob has been violated by Fairley all day long.

It would have been cool to run a RB screen in the Auburn game since they're D-Line was sprinting up field on every play.

Too bad Gary Crowton had never heard of a screen pass.

How about that one in the Cotton Bowl where we line up under center in a Ace formation with 4 WRs with one in front of the other, then we hand off to ridley to run to the outside.

Ole Miss - LSU 2009, waning seconds. LaFell makes a beautiful YAC effort to put us in field goal range. Instead of running to put Jasper in a better position to kick, Crowton calls a pass play which results in a sack (OM D-line tormented JJ all day). The next play is another pass 7 yards behind the line to Ridley.

The rest is history...

It wasn't that he called a pass. It was that he called a play where all five receivers had routes 20+ yards down the field with no drop off route.

He did the same shite at the end of the Arkansas game.

I enjoyed getting delay of game penalties following a time-out. That takes talent.

This thread is making me even more happy than I already was about Crowton being gone. I forgot about some of these gems. Notably, how we already were in FG position in the Ole Miss game and then were playcalled out of it.

I remember some very questionable calls at the end of the Kentucky 07 game but don't remember the details. It seems I remember a swing pass several yards behind the LOS on some long down and distance that we had no chance of making with a swing pass. Anybody want to elaborate?

Yeah, it was 3rd and 10 on the last drive of regulation, and we ran a swing to Murphy that was caught at the LOS, and he ran for a first down.

Hell, I'm not certain it wasn't a 4th down play.

My favorite was in the 2007 Kentucky game when Charles Scott was running roughshod over the Kentucky defense the entire first half to the tune of 94 yards and then he doesn't touch the ball again until the final play of the game at the end of the 3rd overtime on a draw play. Good one Gary! I see now why they call you the Wizard! Only someone that knows magic could manage to frick up that bad.

This is what I imagine Gary Crowton thinking to himself at the end of the first half of the 2007 Kentucky game: Apparently we can run the ball whenever, however and with whomever we want with great success. I bet if we completely abandon the run that will totally freak out their defense! Brilliant!

Throwing the ball well behind the sticks on 3rd and 10. Near a WRs knees. In double coverage.

I will not miss him.

Sadly I already knew what play it was before I opened the thread.

And all this mediocre coaching for $500K/year. Just incredible.

What was the play this year where after 10 seconds of milling around, James Wright lined up in the backfield? It was near the goal line, may have been a two point conversion.

What transpired after this is why I will NEVER EVER be a LESS fan again. Idiot complete idiot.

first play, like antonio moss was an incompletion. didn't mind the pass call, slip screen there to lafell woulda been great there as ANY yardage gained would've been a plus. the second play was virtually the same play call (or so it seemed) yet resulted in the sack for huge yardage loss. then came the dump off to ridley and finally the hail mary.

one of my favorite play calls is when we finally would get RS the ball on a "bubble screen sans blockers." RS isolated to the short side of the field, 3 defenders there, quick pass, loss of several yards. RS has 0 chance to make anything happen as as soon as the ball gets to him, so do 2 defenders with the third in hot pursuit behind them

Is this a serious question?

Has Crowton ever realized any unforeseen condition at any point in any game and decide to adjust his offense accordingly?
If only, he would have recognized that the only player getting any traction on the field was a very fired up Trindon Holiday. LSU would have won that game if GC would have recognized the obvious. It's like the camera man and media "got it" what GC "didn't get", and that was camera shots of TH leaving the field very fired-up after positive plays (punt return and limited 4th qrt runs) and camera shots later of what seemed like a dejected TH on the sideline as if "why am I not on the field". This is the little things that gets unnoticed in the whole scheme of things, but a high priced OC should have recognized what should have been a huge advantage for LSU late in the game.
