It starts in high school when they are recruited. Schedule a press conference. Make sure the cameras are there. Buncha hats. Hey, look at me.

Once in college, it has become all about demanding playing time or seeking a transfer. The number of transfers in the LSU program the last 5 years is astonishing. Where were all these transfers in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s? Even during our championship runs in the 2000s? Answer: they weren't there. Guys were generally more happy to be here.

Nobody wants to get beat out. Nobody can accept being a number 2 and competing for a spot. So I'll just take my marbles and go elsewhere. The modern football player is weak of character, fixated on self, less about the team, and childish.

First, did the good old days not have transfers, or did we simply never hear about it since there wasn't internet, social media, etc.?

Secondly, when the writing is in the wall, I sympathize with these guys. They want to play football, and sometimes you need to move to do it.

Imagine years later, when their time is done, always knowing/wondering if they could have played elsewhere.

When you recruit well, you will have that problem. There are more programs that appeal to kids than there were when it was all about Notre Dame, Texas, USC, OSU, Mich, Penn State, Bama, OU, Miami, and FSU.

You are as selfish as you say these young men are who just want a fair chance to get on the field and do what they love. Every good recruiting school has those kids. Some of them pan out elsewhere and some don't. Let them live and be great where they feel they can succeed.

Hopefully this isnt about Scott, he saw the writing on the wall, he made a smart move. So you are saying that through the 90s until now, if you played SS for the Yankees in AAA, you would demand to not be traded because you are not afraid of competition?

You pretty much just summed up modern society in general.

Troy Aikman left OU because of their offense. That worked out pretty good for OU, UCLA, and Troy.

Players transferring/quiting teams is not a new phenomenon. Only difference is that social media and today's press make it into a much larger news story than it may have been back in the day.

Guy is a redshirt freshman and has no indication that he will receive appreciable playing time during his career, especially once Miles Brennan becomes the starter. Scott wants to play football....not ride the bench. Should he have been signed in the first place? Different question.

Rules allow transfers. You can't expect a competitor to hang around when he realistically knows he won't get on the field. Once Brennan starts the competition is over, barring his injury.

What a dick

Let's not get it twisted.. these kids don't owe you anything.. they have such a small window of opportunity, only one shot to make it to the league... if they aren't getting a shot because of depth or whatever, I have no problem with them leaving - they owe me nothing, it's their life that they have to worry about

the majority of football players recruited by LSU and other major programs have aspriations to go to the NFL. you damn right they look after #1.

like it or not, college football is mostly the NFL's minor league system. where I applaud amateur sports, college football and basketball are quasi-amateur at best. your outdated view is still the norm in small colleges and division II and III and small private colleges.

the "system" characteristics you are bitching about would not exist if there were smaller teams (like the NFL) and all players had to make the team every year (like the NFL).

lastly, I have known some football players that are the most egotistical, entitled human beings on the planet that played in the frickin' '60's. the modern player is no better or worse than these asshats were; the stars have been "priviledged" from junior high school. if they don't take care of themselves, who will?

You're laughing, but you aren't far from the truth

I do agree with the OP that the players are about 'me, me, me' but I feel like they need to be, sort of

Anyone who doesn't agree with you is naive and kidding themselves. It's a sense of entitlement, and this generation doesn't feel like they need to work for anything. Like someone said... it's our whole society, and the future doesn't look too bright.

Flynn stayed. How did that work out?
The commitment to team/school/state is virtually non-existent. It is destroying my love of the game, as I root for LSU.
Perhaps the coach using people for his own means led to that, but the nature of the game is turning in a disappointing direction.

The modern college football fan is all about me, me, me...only caring about wins in spite of the cost. We cant take traffic, heat, cold, or a loss without melting into puddles of goo. Make sure GameDay is here and if they arent they dont love us.

Once on campus, it is all about the party, hopping from one to another. The number of tailgaters that dont go inside the game is astonishing. Where were these parties in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. Even during our championship runs in the 2000s you could see some school pride and full stadiums. Fans were generally proud to be here. These fans loved and supported the school.

The modern football fan has created a mess.

It's not college football players, it's millennials as a whole. You need to adjust because they aren't going to
