Only thing I could figure on Baxa's recruiting rank was leg strength. 4/10 for the year???

No. Not being an apologist for him, but Baxa is the real deal. He was on a team that did not attempt many FGs and a few of his misses were L O N G balls. In watching some of his HS video, I think the misses were more of a problem with his snap/place team than him.

As to this miss, this was on him. It was mechanical...his plant foot was not in place and he wrapped the ball.

I think its cool we have an offensive guard/tackle playing on our special teams defense. I assume he is there because he is listed at 6ft 6. The coaches must have put him in the middle of field goal defense team to do just what he did, jump high and try to get a paw on the ball.

I don't know who made the decision to put him there but it was a nice job of thinking outside the box. You rarely see offensive linemen defending a field goal.

I wonder if they have Sullivan on the line as well. He is 6ft 6 and I would assume has more hops than Deculus, but probably less push to get closer.

I was hoping for one of these blocks and it was not called.

Very cool.
We should have had a blocked punt too.

I agree with all of this. I’m no kicking expert like Barrister, but did kick for 4 years in high school and 1 year CC.

His plant foot was off, and kick would have gone left. His Kohl’s kicking camp videos are strong. The 4/10 stats have a lot more to do with snapper and place holder. Perfect conditions and the kid can bang a ball from 50+.

Not only did Austin get higher than anybody else on the line, but he also timed his jump perfectly....

Maybe we ought to try him out at Corner?

Loved the enthusiasm from Austin. Watching him run and celebrate though reassured me he’s a guard not a Tackle. Lol. I kid ...

Austin got a finger on it. Just enough to sent it left

Looked to me like the first shanked punt was partially blocked as well.

I heard or read somewhere that McMahon puts an emphasis on blocking kicks as a special teams coach. Forgot where but I heard to watch out for LSU blocking kicks or near blocking kicks this season. Didnt think I'd see 2 partial blocks in one game but there it is. I'm convinced now. We're playing Beamerball with a good QB. Ain't mad.

The special teams made a huge difference in this game. I can't remember the last time LSU had such dominating special teams play.

Both kickers were outstanding and they were able to get more push on kick blocks. Very impressive.

Ed Paris tipped the first punt. Place would have erupted if he used 2 hands and actually blocked it.

Kudos to the ST coach who put Deculus out there. Good move and certainly out of the box.

I'm not going to say that the slight touch from his finger had zero affect on the path of the ball, but I think it had very minimal affect and I suspect that the kick was going to miss left anyway.

I tend to agree with you. It had little impact but hey good for AD.

Yep...during the live telecast we all noticed his excitement and reactions...indicating he had tipped the kick. No way he reacts like that just for a bland miss FG.

Was expecting a reply and response after commercials, but it never happened.
