quote:

Todd walker was turrible as a sophisticated So was Eddie furniss
As a sophomore, Furniss was named the SEC Player of the Year, as he batted .374 and hit 26 home runs with 103 RBIs, the most in the nation. He was also named a first-team All American.

Todd Walker
SOPHOMORE SEASON (1993)
Led LSU to its second national championship in three seasons as he was voted Most Outstanding Player of the College World Series, batting .350 (7-for-20) with three homers and 12 RBI ... one of nine finalists for the Golden Spikes Award and one of four finalists for the Smith Award, honors given annually to the nation's outstanding collegiate baseball player ... led the Tigers in nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.395), runs (85), hits (109), RBI (102), triples (11), total bases (214), home runs (22) and slugging percentage (.775) ... led the SEC in homers (22), RBI (102 - SEC record), total bases (214 - SEC record), runs (85), triples (11), base hits (109) and slugging percentage (.775) ... his totals for RBI, hits, runs, total bases and triples were all single-season LSU records ...

yeah Eddie and Todd were turrible 2nd year players alright. you know your shite.

My point was, while players like Furniss and Nola had solid freshman years, they didn't reach their all American form till their sophomore years

All-American Level and being an actual All-American are slightly different things since both involve subjectivity

If you watched his last 2 games on tv, his pitches were just a bit low for the most part. He was not missing by that much for the most part. Coach Dunn has commented that his mechanics just need a bit of tweaking & he is not concerned in the least. Coach speak or otherwise, Dunn knows a lot more about any problems Lang is having. He was quoted in the paper as saying they went over each & every pitch, game situation, what was called, the results, etc. To show just how much detail Dunn goes into with his pitchers.

Anyone have stats of swinging K's to called K's comparison of last year to this year, could indicate "effective wildness", control issues or batter discipline from film study

It's the fans. Expectations are high cus the guy is 25 out of his last 25 decisions. So they expect this kid to just keep going undefeated. That puts pressure on him to out perform his previous season. This is what happens.

I would say it's mechanical.

SEC tourney, Regional, Super Regional, and CWS teams had almost as much film to review against Lange as this year's competition. He dominated in those games after opponents had much review of film. I venture those teams studied more film than 2 non-conference schools this season.

If he can fix those mechanics he will be fine. Film won't help you from looking silly against a dominant pitcher.
