How long, realistically do you think we have in order to close the gap between us and Bama as a program?
I know this is an old sore topic. I feel as though we made up some ground last year but have a short window to capitalize on it recruiting wise in order to prevent another decade of playing second fiddle to them in the west.

Disclaimer, this has zero to do with the loss against MSU. While the impact on recruiting was not insignificant I don't think it is crippling. I'm thinking long term here.

We will never become Alabama’s equal historically. Bear Bryant is their 2nd best coach. Let that sink in. Nd tosu..none is their equal. But we can do what we did last year every 7-8 years

every 7-8? nahh we can realistically can do more than that. 2003-2007 time period is what LSU should always be

No matter how good our recruiting classes are, Bama's is always a little better.

We rebuild with young players who have growing pains while Bama simply plugs in the next man up and the team still functions the same.

Our DBs look tiny while Bama’s look like small fast LBs.

Until Saban dies, since he’ll never retire, LSU will be chasing Bama. We will sometimes beat Bama and sometimes contend for a NC but only Clemson matches Bama’s consistency.

Wish that were the case. Sadly the other 100+ years prove it isn’t. 7-8 is being generous. Should be and has been don’t match up

I’d put Ohio State in there as well.

Until we are able to get some key Juniors to stay for their Senior year and not bolt for the NFL, we will always be a step behind Bama. The next issue will be the "opt outs". If the trend of Chase, Vincent, and Shelvin become the norm the gap could get wider. Funny how Bama didn't have a single "opt out".

We lost 24 contributors off last year’s team. We are recruiting just as well as Bama. We have to get through this year, and then we’ll be there. The answer to your question is: one year ago. Starting in 2019 we’ll beat Bama as often as not.

The gap between us and Bama is as big as the gap between Alex Leathwrwood and Saahdiq Charles. One (Alex) was a 5 star, top 5 player in the country, multi year starter, projected early 1st rd pick, but chose to stay for his senior season and will undoubtedly be a top 5 pick in next years draft. The other (Saahdiq) was ranked outside the top 250, multi year starter, low draft projection, leaves after his junior year to be a 4th rd pick and back up in the NFL. So not only has LSU had an issue recruiting top tackles but then we can't even keep them from going to he an NFL back up. There is the gap

Worrying about the “Bama gap” all the time is the reason LSU lost to them for 8 straight years. Get over them they are just another program. Yes they are great and are still on a historic run but O proved last season his way works too. We don’t have to be like Bama we can just be the best LSU and the best LSU just created the GREATEST TEAM IN THE HISTORY OF THE SPORT so I am perfectly fine being LSU and not worrying about other programs.

I said it a few days ago, until LSU can change draft eligible JRs (with mid-lower draft grades) from leaving, there will continue to be separation. That’s the difference. A1 could easily be without Najee Harris, devonta, leatherwood and others this year. Players of that caliber leave LSU early. Look at Clemson the past 5 years...they’ve had multiple high draft graded guys stay. LSU loses those guys and struggles to keep lower round guys...some go UDFA! That’s the difference.

Nah. They've done it over a much shorter period of time than Bama.

Yes and in the middle of a tremendous Bama run LSU put a great team in the field. A great team that played everywhere and beat everybody and they did it in grand fashion.

There need not be all this woe is me crap, we conquered the beast in his den and went on and put the LSU name up there with the all time great teams in history.
