You should stop twisting my words first...I did NOT say businesses rely "solely" on LSU home games !
What I DID say was...businesses are impacted by LSU SELLING its' home games on a regular basis and then giving us Towson States !
EVERYONE understands TV money drives this whole thing and concessions have to be made if you want to play in a big time conference...most people are fine with the rare 11 am game. What hurts economically is the repeated SELLING of home dates...I believe it sets a bad precedent and will lead to more poor home schedules. It IS possible to schedule competitive home/home games and we should do more of it and less Towsons / neutral site games.
The SEC HAS what the networks want btw. asking for what the conference wants in exchange IS a possibility although I doubt the B'ham office has ever thought about it
I'd be willing to bet that the impact of away games aren't as bad as you're making them out to be. People here still party it up for LSU away games and the bigger they are the bigger the party. I'm sure the local businesses had no problem selling catering items, ice, beer, etc. You're way too sensitive about this homey.

I stopped reading this thread after the first page. I understand powers-that-be make decisions about scheduling, either voluntarily or contracturally.
To me, the bottom line here is night games against quality opponents in Tiger Stadium are almost the exception rather than the norm now and I think we are losing a part of our tradition and football culture because of it.

Meh. I'm of the thought that if you want to play with the big boys you better be ready to play under the sun. Also, we should really be pissed that KY sucks so much. That's the REAL reason why we're getting this shitty kick off time.

frick it, LSU needs to go rogue like Texas and get their own TV deal. frick the rest of the SEC, if it wasn't for LSU, and Fl. and maybe Alabama, and I guess Auburn, oh and don't forget Arky, Tennessee too.
Never mind.
Never mind.

Yeah! I finally get to watch a game in real time from my sling box in Norway. Woohoo! Hope the crowd isn't dead though.

We should definitely go back to sucking so that we can play night games.

Not as long as the CBS contract takes precedence in prohibiting games on other networks that are up against games that CBS is broadcasting. This is the contract provision that the SEC should have the balls to object to in the next negotiating session. CBS needs the SEC more than the SEC needs CBS.

Of course CBS is going to prohibit that, but CBS broadcasts one night game a year. It affects 11:00 and 2:30 kickoffs, not night games. In fact, it probably encourages more night kickoffs because it expands the television options for the game.

It's the "noncompete" clause in the CBS contract that is causing the 11:30 game next week. If it weren't there, it's pretty certain that ABC/ESPN would have picked up that game for an afternoon or, more likely, evening start. I'm just saying that the SEC has the negotiating strength to get rid of that annoyance. And if it costs a modest amount in terms of the overall contract payment (which I doubt it would) it's still worth it to get rid of the morning games (or 12:30 games for SEC schools in the Eastern time zone).

frick frick frick frick
I have the LSAT that morning. On campus.
Holy shite.
Not only is it going to be a terrible testing environment, but I'm going to miss out on student priority points (which are important for postseason)
Will they still scan my card if I can only make it in by halftime?

A million times this. It's the way CBS and ESPN dictate to the SEC how their product will be sold. ESPN gives up the marquee SEC game each week in exchange for having all of the other games with that whole no-compete provision that the marquee game will not go up against their broadcasts with the exception of the one doubleheader CBS gets to do.
Tell CBS/ESPN/next network who wants a non-compete to go frick itself on the no-compete provision and the problem resolves. Also, the SEC really needs to put into the next contract if there is some sort of two network "marquee game" setup like CBS/ESPN have now, that the network paying for the marquee game must make both a day and a night slot available, the decision to be made by the home team. The other network would then plan its games as it wishes.
The point being that you are buying our product, and our product in the SEC is the whole experience, which if you change, invariably changes the product. Some of the SEC teams play days. Others prefer nights. LSU, Florida, or Alabama at 2:30 is NOT the same product as those teams playing at home at night. Take the product we offer as we offer it, and don't try to make it fit you.
Someone else would be more than happy to pay for the product as-is.
