10 years from now there will be no passion for college sports.
Why would you say that? People still are fans of professional teams in the NBA, NFL and MLB. Why would they stop being fans of their minor league pro sports teams that happen to be platformed on a school?

This decision doesn’t curb a single thing. It just establishes another income source from the university.

How long are we giving until someone sues after not having one of their NIL deals approved by the committee?

That would make players employees and most likely have to sign contracts with non-compete clauses.

Big donors have been throwing money at athletes for over 100 years! John David crow talked about a bale of hay stuffed with cash and a A&M flag. Bear Bryant passed a hat to collect money at A&M to beat Texas. Maybe now there will be oversight.
Also my examples aren’t just to call out A&M. Just 2 I thought of at the moment of the post.

The settlement will be challenged and quickly be relegated to irrelevance.
The players don’t want regulation and neither do the state legislatures (ex. Tennessee). The casualties will ultimately be the smaller sports, golf, swimming, soccer, tennis, etc. Football and basketball will be fine. Too much of a lucrative business.

There is zero chance this will happen. And a less than zero chance such “contracts” would be enforceable

Until the literal first time it happens

Yep. It's logical to surmise that the under the table payments have never stopped.
Now the top players will get their cut of the $20.5 million, third party NIL deals, AND undisclosed cash from boosters.
This might actually improve the quality of college sports, because unless you're a top draft pick, you can make significantly more by staying in college.
The biggest adjustment needs to be restricting transfers. Maybe you get one immediate transfer, then you have to sit a year for any subsequent transfers.

They should, and prolly will eventually, have to sign contracts. You wanna be a pro, that's what pros do. This constant moving around has to STOP.

Pay is not the issue. It is the portal that destroys programs and doesn’t allow coaches to manage a roster.

To your point, any player on Scholarship has been receiving a financial return. This means the level of the financial return can legally be increased.
Per AI below.
Taxable Income: Scholarship funds used for room and board are generally taxable income. This is because room and board are not considered "qualified education expenses" by the IRS. Therefore, any scholarship portion used for these expenses must be reported as gross income.

They will be employees of the universities. They need to get rid of the “student athlete” lie. There is no need for them to attend class as a requirement to play. Do away with athletic scholarships completely.
