The Facts About Last Night

I am a LSU fan through and through but last night was horrible!! LSU basically got beat on both sides of the ball. The difference in the game was the Cutera INT TD. LSU was out rushed, and out passed by Washington. LSU allowed 478 total yards, which is completely unacceptable.
I saw no change from last year. I felt like I was watching the Malveto defense. I thought Chevis was supposed to be this awesome master mind. A lot of people want to make fun of Kiffin for hiring his dad....Tenn. gave up 84 total yards.
I understand we won the game, great! But that was a pitiful win. No arguing about it! Defense still unorganized, and still the continual stupid offensive play calling on certain drives. If we play like that against the SEC we'll be lucky to finish what we did last year.
But as of right now, you can go ahead and chalk up a loss to UF, Alabama, and Georgia. I'll get back on later after Ole Miss plays and give you my opinion on them.

This bears repeating about a million times: It was Western Kentucky.

I wish we had Sark!
Washington's staff > LSU's staff
Washington's staff > LSU's staff

I would rather have heard The about Facts of Life.

Sarkisian could be the next in the line of hot names as young coaches. He can't be any worse than Willingham.

They got more out of their players than we did,for sure!

1) UW did not score in the 2nd half until the 5:24 mark of the 4th quarter. True, they missed a field goal, but that was set up by bad pass interference call on Taylor.
2) Every time LSU's offense sputtered, it involved Jefferson NOT throwing the ball to covered receivers. He either took the sack, scrambled for positive yards or threw it away.
3) After UW's field goal, LSU answered with an excellent drive. 60+ yards in 6 or so plays ... Option to KW left, then Lafell for the 1st. Option again to KW for 8 more, then Jefferson stays in the pocket, looks off receiver, then hits Tolliver. KW up the middle to the 5 yard line, then TD pass to Lafell, Jefferson rolling out of the pocket.
Don't know what else you'd want.

This could be true, if you assume there will be zero improvement as the season progresses, which you clearly do. Strange position to take as a "fan".

I'm sure we are all anxiously awaiting your commentary

Yeah, UGA looked marvelous.

The biggest problem with last night was the continuation of the slide to mediocre to bad defense which most would agree started in mid 2007.
The other major issue which became obvious throughout the game is that our OL is just not very good, which does not give me a warm fuzzy feeling about the conference games.
Considering Bama looks dominant on defense, Ole Miss is likely way better at QB and in the trenches, and that Florida is a no win situation unless they charter the Lynyrd Skynrd Airways plane, that boxes us out of any shot at winning the West. 8-4 looks like the best case scenario.

Tenn. played AT home vs. Western Kentucky. If Chevis was at Tenn this year, I bet the stats would be the same.
What Chavis runs is not that different from what Kiffen runs, a basic cover 2 Tampa. It is a zone defense that depends on a good rush by the DL.
Edit: Caught by the spelling police. I am guilty.

They had more to prove then us and did not have to travel across country to play. They made a great call (the 3rd down screen) early in the game which got their crowd rockin and gave them confidence. We didnt play well but still got the win. Things will be different against the teams you mention, particularly the revenge factor.

what was it about him coming in that made you think this? Did you look at his previous defenses and determine this?

The two main problems with the defense last night were a constant lack of containment by the defensesive ends and outside linebackers. The D-ends constantly bit on inside fakes and got sucked inside complete out of position to make a play. The other thing was Chad Jones being non-existant in the defensive backfield, thus causing us to play with only 10 defensive players for most of the game. (11 minus chad jones = 10).
