Wow, i never heard that.
I was pretty young and living in Atlanta. That's pretty interesting though. I know Chris had a low score. Maybe around 13 points? It was crazy that he had Tourette's also

Please … Swift was good but had no business being in conversation. Macklin and Pettit are 4 and 5

Yea, started happening late in the year, at first we were told that his Tourette’s caused him to involuntarily hit someone in the locker room but that player was never named. Then the flu story came out after the Ga. Tech game but rumor was he and Mo had gotten into it again.

Sorry you tried to slip one by everybody and got caught but that’s not my fault. He blew a 20 point lead, you can spin that, create false stories about why it happened and dismiss as many facts as you want but he choked that game away.

I agree 100%, you had 4 cycles of top recruits on 1 team in some cases. For example you’re never going to see a Christian Laettner and a Grant Hill on the same team again. But we’re leaving some context out here, yes Ga Tech was a very good team but the pre season #1 that year was UNLV… number 2 was LSU so we blew a 20 point lead to an inferior team is what happened. I don’t know why people are taking this as a personal attack on Dale Brown? It’s not, it’s just a fact.

Shaq has mentioned that he and Chris screwed that up by not playing as a team but as couple of selfish players. He has said it more than once.

Brandon Bass was more valuable than Stanley Roberts and better than Ben Simmons and Randy Livingston

Ricky Blanton was a better shooter than John Williams but John was better inside. I think Rudy may have been better all around than both of them.

Dale didn't meet expectations with that team. When Dale was just coaching, it's Dale. But the program was nothing also without Dale at the time. Things can co-exist.
No one IMO - IMO - was beating UNLV that season. No one. Unless they decided for other monetary reasons.

Well I don’t believe that Dale was a great motivator who loved his players and was a great recruiter but couldn’t coach. He was a very good coach who did some innovative things that are still used today. I think he started to get old and lost some key assistants right when he hit those jackpot recruiting classes from 88 through the early 90s.

I think he was a great motivator. I think he loved his players. I think he could coach.
The narrative is that he only had 2/3 of that and I do fight back against it.
He wasn't throwing chairs and slamming phones and choking players. He was looking for Sasquatch.

Man it is tough to name starters because you have to decide whether you disregard things like career-changing injuries or difference in strength and development of players in the 1950s versus the 1990s+, and whether you rate them based on their peak conditioning and skill (e.g. NBA All-Star version or college version). I'm going to assume no injuries, peak performance/conditioning and name the following 15 guys:
Starters
PG - Chris Jackson 6'0"
SG - Pete Maravich 6'5"
SF - Rudy Macklin 6'7'
PF - Bob Pettit 6'9"
C - Shaquille O'Neal 7'1"
Alternates:
F - John Williams 6'8"
PG - Randy Livingston 6'4"
C - Stanely Roberts 7'0"
G/F - Jerry Reynolds 6'8"
F - DeWayne Scales 6'9"
G - Cam Thomas 6'3"
G/F - Don Redden 6'6"
F - Ben Simmonds 6'10"
F - Brandon Bass 6'8"
G - Ethan Martin 5'11"
**I might be tempted to substitute a defensive stopper like one of the Temples or Oliver Brown for Brandon Bass or Ben Simmons. Man, and I also really want Howard Carter on my team.

Rudy was way better then both Blanton and Williams.

Just because you don't like him doesn't make him garbage. He had the best season freshman season in LSU history. He is top 5-7 best of all time

ESPN did a all time team bracket few years ago and LSU finished 2nd. I can't remember who won it NC or ucla

Bobby Knight said he was worried about having to play LSU until he saw Dale Brown sitting on the bench.
