We had the head of LSU marketing come and speak in one of our classes when I was in school. The reason for toonces was simply that there was an "old tiger head logo"...there were tons of logos and this was their way to modernize and unify their brand image.
Much more thought went into that decision beyond "which one looks better, a or b?"

I'm as old school as it gets when it comes to our uniforms. However, we are gonna have one Nike bullshite uniform per year. Might as well get used to it.

I wouldn't say every game but for a non conference game one a year doesn't bother me all that much. If the players like it then once a year I am good with it.

It's not the worst. Any uniforms involving non LSU colors like black, which I keep hearing bandied about on the Rant, are worse.
That being said, it's pretty bad. The traditional uniforms with the standard white or purple jerseys, and gold pants and headgear, look great and have stood the test of time.
If an alternate uniform is desired, why not the regular purple jerseys with white pants and headgear, as worn vs. South Carolina last year, or the throwback uniform with old gold helmets as worn vs. Arkansas in 2009? These are tasteful, attractive designs that usually produce positive results on the field.
