I started following LSU when I was twelve in 2003. Hell I remember even before that my dad yelling at Booty on TV.

My dad took me to the LSU South Carolina in Columbia that year. After that I was hooked.

I've had a spoiled existence as an LSU fan. I have no recollection of the dark days, only an awareness they happened.

So here I was at 25 years old this season, watching LSU. After the Troy game I felt like we were for sure going in to the shitter 90s style. It was the first time in years my life I contemplated what it would be like to watch LSU be a bottom feeder. I started thinking how bad football seasons would suck with nothing to look forward to. It literally was a feeling I never had in my life and it sucked.

After the Florida win, I felt a bit more optimistic but I still didn't want to get my hopes up. On Saturday I worked right up until kick off. Walked out watching on my phone. When I got home I poured a crown and Coke and was prepared to drown away the suck and it kept getting worse, at 20-0 I texted my dad who went hunting instead and said "We're about to get run over." I began to fear a 56-0 type game.

But LSU didn't quit, with each big play I believed more and more. Gage's TD reeled me back in. I believed again. Seeing the 07 team and Mile's interview gave me chills. I drank my nerves away the whole 3rd quarter. Then when Chark ran the shite to house, my grown man arse jumped up and down my living room by myself like the 12 year old in 2003. I KNEW we were going to win. I called my dad and gave him the play by play as he sat in his deer stand. He couldn't believe it. When Key got the final sack I lost my shite.

Never before in one LSU game have I ever felt such despair about the program, and such joy about my team in a span of four hours. What a freaking game.

TL;DR Dilly Dilly LSU made me feel like a school boy again

Enjoy this one young man. It will be a long time before LSU gets down 20 points again and manages a "W." This one was one for the ages. Florida game previous week was just as intense but w/o many true highlights. This game had it ALL! Get ready for a few more close ones this season. +1

Unfortunately, the heat tainted the affair a little for me...but I have to agree, this was one for the ages! Strange shite happens when we play Auburn, and last night's game was no exception.

read, and upvoted.

I was definitely around for the 90's. Grew up watching LSU in the 80's (and ND... dad was a ND grad).

As much as people want to say it, even losing to Troy, the feeling is not even close.

But here is the cautionary tale... it really doesn't take much to get back there. It it takes alot to crawl back up.

So by all means get your hopes up. We used to get so excited by being spoilers (looking at you UF), games against the Greenie Weenies, and when we got TWO good local players named Booger and Faulk. But we didn't have hopes of being a contender. Bright spots were just that.

So I envy people like you to some extent. At least there is true hope, where for the longest we were fooling ourselves but we knew it and didn't care.

And maybe, because y'all do think this is really really bad, when it is not, it may be you and people like you voices that prevent us from getting there.

Fact of the matter is I saw us sliding there very slowly in Miles last couple years. I knew he wouldn't be there for it if it happened. We haven't changed that yet. But since the hole is nothing compared to the past, there is a chance.

My kid just turned 5 and went to his 5th game yesterday, and we lived in Virginia up until the past 6 months. His first game was at 23 months in The Swamp. He knows the cheers and yells tiger bait to the "bad guys".

Prior to the 2005 season, I had to split tickets with my older brother, so I didn't get to go to near all of the home games. My older brother got the tickets for games like 2003 Georgia, 1997 Florida, 2002 Ole Miss, and 2004 Oregon St. I typically got stuck with rent-a-wins, Miss St, and Arkansas. My first game was the 94 loss to Texas A&M.

My family moved from BR to SC when I was 3, so LSU wasn't forced down my throat by the culture.

First year I played football was when I was 12. So I guess I naturally started following then. I played baseball growing up. To be fair I loved some LSU baseball even before I was 12. Also spoiled as a baseball fan as well.

Yep it was the night of 07 Arky loss. I wanted Miles gone and I had to jump on here and say it.

Little did I know a week later I'd be in ATL with Dad after the SECCG in bar pulling for the fighting mustaches. And then going to bed like kid on Christmas about our chances to make it.LSUMatt was the GOAT.

Fwiw sometimes I and go back read my really old post and wonder WTF I was thinking as a teenager and college student. God I sounded so uneducated.

I can see how someone who wasn't there for the 90s would think this way. I bet you wouldn't believe me if I told you that you were wrong though. I grew up with season tickets going to every game in the 90s and not once did I, or anyone in my family, feel like there was nothing to look forward to. We used to take a charter bus from Opelousas to Baton Rouge every home game. I can still feel the excitement through the house waking up Saturday mornings and getting everything ready. It was a family effort. We'd bring food, drinks, DRINKS, and whatever else. Everyone riding the bus knew each other because that's just what we did. It was the same crew week in and week out. Young and old. We did it with a smile on our faces too. I can't tell you how I hated going to watch A&M push our shite in at the beginning of every year. That's the first team I think I ever hated Best part is that even though we were a pretty shitty team, I never remember seeing the stadium empty and it was always loud. So I'll be honest with you, when we lost to Troy, it actually brought a little smile to my face with just the thought that we may be heading back to those days and maybe get back to our roots. I still had a blast back then, and I'll continue to do so, good or bad. And to this day, I still get that excitement every game day just like when I was a kid sitting at the top of the East sideline, baking in the sun in during the dark days.

Guess my point is, you may think it's going to be miserable, but as long as you don't let it, it won't be. It's more than just a game to a lot of folks. Guess I'm one.
