That ball was on the rim. But we won.

Kentucky dude hit the rim with his hand when the shot went up. Interference on them anyway.

About 50% of the ball was above the cylinder, but it was not on the rim.

You are wrong podnuh.

God we have some morons in here

By rule it was basket interference on LSU and it isn’t even debatable.

But the refs owed us so to hell with it

After seeing the pic of Kentucky player with arm through the net

Goaltending should have been called on them making this all a mute point

Let’s get this one out of the way: Definitely wasn’t goaltending because goaltending is a defensive call. Per the ncaa rule book:
quote:

Art. 3. Goaltending? a? Goaltending occurs when a defensive player touches the ball during a field-goal try and each of the following conditions is met:

So let’s look at basket interference. Per the ncaa rule book:
quote:

Basket interference occurs when a player: 1? Touches the ball or any part of the basket while the ball is on or within the basket; 2? Touches the ball while any part of it is within the cylinder that has the ring as its lower base; 3? Reaches through the basket from below and touches the ball before it enters the cylinder; 4? Pulls down a movable ring so that it contacts the ball before the ring returns to its original position, and 5? Causes the basket or backboard to vibrate when the ball is on or within the basket or the backboard and/or is on or in the cylinder?

None of those happened. Ball was not on the rim. Ball was not in the cylinder.

Just change it to in the cylinder and you’re right.

Great game.

So if it's off the rim, but 50% of ball is still above (in cylinder) it's goaltending?

I'm not a basketball guy, so please fill me in.

If it is, pretty that could be called 3/4 times a game in every game

No it wasn't, stupid. Watch the replay again and again, it's not on the rim.

For the “in the cylinder” rule, does the ball have to be completely out or more than half to be good?

Yes. If you your drew a straight line from the rim upwards and any part of it is inside there, it’s interference
