Hell of a run with a natty, 7 national seeds in row and some monster players.
Thank you coach.

Trying to remember that long ago

He wasn't perfect, but we got to watch a lot of fun, important games under Pawl. Here's to another decade or two of success for the next coach.

He did have a nice run. Sad to see him in pain and limp off like this but it’s best for LSU

Paul kept us as a national contender and sustained a level of success. Nobody was going to repeat what Skip Bertman achieved, but I've watched some great baseball the last 15 years.

People here shite on Paul and he finished on a downward trajectory but he was a great coach who sustained LSU baseball success. It’s hard as frick to win a college baseball title. Tim Corbin for example with all his talented teams over the years only has 2. Just shows how great Skip was.

Exactly, and the cupboard isn’t bare. This team can win now. It’s a bit different than when Smoke wrapped up in town.

You’re so funny he was literally in the CWS finals 4 years ago

The further we get from Skip Bertman the easier coaches will have it here.
We have high expectations. As we should, but 6 titles in a decade is a hard chore.
Realistically, hosting a regional every year, a super every other year, and making Omaha every 2-3 seasons is successful. Throw in a title every few visits to Omaha and you’ll have a long career.

Everyone wants to compare him to Skip which makes his career a failure on those terms. The last few years tailed off but most of his time during his tenure at LSU he had us right there with the best of them. He probably should have at least won 1 more national championship at LSU. Was extremely close in 2017.

You should read the article on lsusports. Net for a better understanding, because you sound ignorant of the facts.

Now that it is official and we avoid the CLM “everyone still loves him so don’t fire him” scenario, I would like to show my appreciation.
The hardest thing to do in life is to follow a legend. Yes I know Smoke technically followed skip and failed miserably but Paul was hired with the memories of the 90s still pretty fresh in everyone’s mind. While CLM inherited a great team, Paul did not. He rebuilt the program quickly and had us competing for nattys from 2008-2017 (with minor hiccups in there). The wheels kind of fell off the last few years but every story has its end.
The best thing Paul did lately was leave us a great freshman class for the next coach to work with.
I appreciate all that Paul did for our school but I am super excited for our next hire and have high hopes of being regulars in Omaha again.

People seem to expect the ride off into the championship sunset type of departure, but it just doesn't happen like that.
No reason to ignore all his great contributions to LSU because of an underwhelming finish to his time (not directed at you.) It's almost always underwhelming.
