Most of y'all would love this if it didn't offend your 19 year old sports heroes.

Forced patriotism sounds a lot more like real USSR values.

Maybe. A lot of folks here hate to be told what to do though they do not mind telling others what to do.

I am very conservative. My view of the government is that they should be there to ensure fair opportunities and protect people from the evil and unscrupulous of this world but otherwise stay out of the way. Demanding patriotism is not something any level of government should do. If the founding fathers had been patriotic as defined by most people, we would still be part of the UK.

Landry is obviously smart enough to get himself elected governor of Louisiana, but he does some silly stuff.

I know this is old, but I thought it was silly then too.

It's not a distraction. He made a speech and threatened LSU demanding we be out of locker room for the anthem. LSU said NO and ignored him. Landry has the authority of a substitute teacher when it comes to LSU football.

Get your fricking arse on the field for the National Anthem, stand the frick up and show respect to your country.

LSU should have just let it be. no reason to come out and rehash this.

LSU didn't bring it up. The athletic department was asked about it and they answered.

Why did you start this thread? Old news that was brought up this week to engage simpletons like you. It won't be an issue if people like you don't start threads about it.

I think most are unscrupulous and many are actually overtly evil. But I think a lot of them convince themselves to ignore reality for their own gain, more passively evil. Which may actually be worse because it is not so obvious.

But there have been a precious few who were neither. At least at the state level. They stand out like shining stars and usually get out of politics quickly.
