At what point in the season do games and stats start to matter? Like percentage wise.
It depends on how much you've won already. I know that sounds like an oxy moron but it's true. Baseball is a sports where all that matters is how you perform in the post-season. We've seen teams with bad regular seasons win it all several times. Ole Miss and Fresno state are the 2 obvious examples.
Jay has shown in his 4 years here that he manages the team with the intention to allow us to peak as late as possible. He treated 2022/2024 very differently than 2023/2025. In the two championship years he could afford to continue trotting high upside guys out there through their struggles in hopes that they would figure it out, and we were winning enough in the meantime that we could do so without damaging our postseason positioning. And there was a huge payoff in the postseason performances of guys like Floyd, Hurd, and Shores. In 2022 and 2024 he was forced to switch to the reliable low upside guys just to make the tournament: think Hilliard, Vietmeier, Hasty, and Hellmers while moving away and giving up on guys like Hurd and Kling earlier than he would've liked.
So basically the games don't "matter" until we lose enough that Jay has to change his strategy

LSU fans used to take pride in being the most college baseball educated fans in America, because it was true.
Now LSU baseball fans have become the most emotionally driven hysterical wrecks in the nation, much like our football fanbase. Sad.
Winning 2 nattys in the days of what social media has become caused this. But spot on. The past years baseball threads on here were very good. Now they are full of bandwagon fans. Half the baseball posters on here now are cry babies that do not understand the nuances of baseball.

Right, so technically those early games still "matter" because they buy you time to be able to experiment later into the season.

I agree that we’re not going to win every year! However we should not look this bad never!

Ehh if you're talking nonconference then not really. Postseason positioning is really all about SEC record. But yes, the early SEC games do matter to the extent that winning them gives Jay wiggle room to keep trying different things. BUT they dont matter more than the actual experimentation itself. The goal at LSU is peaking for championships. Regional appearances will get you fired.
And to make it even more of a moving target, if we lose the next couple series then we sort of have even more time until the games matter because we're no longer playing for a top 8 seed.

But you would agree that at a certain point, stats and records become a trend correct? So if you are ranked near the bottom of the SEC for the majority of the season, then you “peak” at the end of the season (like in 2024) it still makes you a middle of the pack SEC team, which could mean getting bounced in a regional.
Like at some point, being one of the worst pitching, fielding or hitting teams in the conference becomes a problem because it’s more than likely that there’s only so much room for improvement.

Yea no disagreement on that. It's perfectly fair to judge the team based on their performance to date. I think that's a different discussion though.
They've sucked and what's more concerning is that I don't see enough potential in the infield to make a drastic turnaround. Although thats not to say they wont. Can this team become a regional host and make it to Omaha? Yea, but that's probably the absolute ceiling in my eyes and I don't think they have it in them personally.
