They probably wanted Aranda more, but A&M played this very well and caught our administration flat-footed.
It never ceases to amaze me how some of you always view a situation so LSU is seen in a bad light.
1. We go after Jimbo, FSU gives him a raise to stay and LSU got duped, played.
2. Aggies come after Aranda, LSU gives him a raise to stay and LSU got duped, played.
Glass empty much? Constructive criticism is one thing, but some of you
are just determined to cast LSU in the worst light possible simply to fuel your hatred of all things CEO and Alleva.

So, do you disagree with either of these points? Didn't they get one of the DC's they were targeting and make us pay more for ours? Both of those points are factually correct.
It's also correct that we won't care if we hire a good OC but they will be able to claim they played us, made us pay too much money, etc., if we simply promote Ensminger.
Alleva made the right decision in keeping Aranda and I'm encouraged by the fact that it seems like he's now head coach in waiting.

Your argument only makes sense if I actually said both of those things. I actually said neither. I never said LSU got played by Fisher or FSU. I thought they should have kept negotiating.
I also didn't say LSU got duped by Aranda. A&M made a great play for Aranda and made LSU pay more, hopefully to little or no effect. However, if we don't hire an OC and simply promote Ensminger, how would you explain it?
A&M played the situation exactly the way they should have. We should all hope Alleva learned from this.
I'm actually not upset in the least in what transpired. I feel relieved thinking Aranda is lined up as the next HC and we don't have A&M breathing down our necks.
This isn't a "glass half empty" scenario. You guys need to just think about your comments before you say A&M misplayed this.

Tamu was turned down by 3 DCs. They didn't play thus well, they missed on their top guys. Elko was plan D. You spinning that as a win is special.

Wow. Those threads are an embarrassment.

They got like their 4th choice and probably overpaid because of their bid for Aranda, and LSU still has the better coordinator.
But yes, exactly as they planned

I explained before that A&M did the right thing in negotiating with several elite prospects simultaneously. There is no doubt in my mind that Aranda is in a class above Elko, but I don't buy your take on the scenario.
I think Alleva messed up our last HC search because he was too worried about being seen as having been turned down by candidates. My point is, why should he care? Identify about a half dozen candidates and negotiate with them simultaneously. You can leverage your parallel negotiations against the others and increase your chances that you will hire one of those six.
At the end, people will be able to say "but Alleva was rejected by two guys before he signed Coach X." So what? Why should he care? Mission accomplished. In my opinion, that's what A&M, did.
I understand you want to insult A&M, but you have a really weak case here.

They landed a VERY average DC, and we still have a rocking super-star DC.
Elko isn't in Aranda's league, but he's a very good DC.
They will be significantly better on that side of the ball. My Notre Dame friend is really pissed they lost him to Aggie.

If it makes you feel better that A&M got turned down by a few other DC prospects that they were negotiating with simultaneously, go ahead. They did what they needed to do and they don't care.

I wish the moron that said “LSU won the battle but not the war” would realize their SEC record against us. Dumb delusional Faggie doesn’t understand that they are winless... I’m not sure what else has to happen to lose the war. Aggie arrogance is a sickness.

Tigers football made $85 million in the 2015-16 academic year, turning a profit of more than $55 million. That’s according to two documents obtained by The Advocate: an audit of the athletic department released by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor and an NCAA financial report the school released
and we don't count TAF contributions in that. the aggies do count their contributions for the new stadium in theirs.

wtf? exactly what was Alleva to learn from this? he ponied up to keep an integral part of our coaching staff. he should be congratulated. he would have been stupid to let the aggies buy him.
you must be an aggie. you are giving them credit where none is due. did they make us pay more? not much really. aranda was getting a raise anyway. so we guaranteed him for 4 years; i'm sure there are some stipulations to that which we will find out later. a good example would be a buy out provision in case he leaves voluntarily. quid pro quo. so we locked up a great DC for 4 years vs letting him coach a team in our division.
why is EVERYTHING LSU does bad and everything another school does is good. I swear, some of our fans have a terrible inferiority complex.

They were going to get one of DC's they were targeting with the money they are throwing around, it wasn't like they were going to have to promote some position coach because no one wanted the job.
This isn't the NFL there is no salary cap making LSU pay more doesn't change anything. A&M didn't gain some strategic advantage because LSU is now paying Aranda more.

I've already said in other posts that I'm glad that LSU ponied up the money and kept Aranda. I've also said that I am relieved that it appears that Aranda is now the coach in waiting. But A&M played this situation perfectly right.
Compare what A&M did with their DC negotiations versus LSU's HC negotiations. A&M negotiated with several elite coordinators simultaneously, and obtained one of the several targets they identified as an acceptable target. While that was going on, they forced a hated division rival to pay and additional $700K/yr (the salary of a top 15 coordinator) on their DC.
Now look at what LSU did. They identified two targets. They negotiated for a short period of time and when our initial offers were rebuffed, Alleva ended the negotiations. He then quickly named a staff position coach as HC to avoid what he perceived as an embarrassment of Fisher and Herman declining LSU's offer. He literally could have searched for months longer and Orgeron would have still been there. To top that off, he gave Orgeron a $12M buyout. Knowing what a weak candidate Orgeron was, they sold the hire with the promise that they would keep Aranda and ensure that we had the best coordinators money could buy.
Who did a better job? Who followed the more successful strategy? Do you not understand what I am saying when I state "I hope Alleva learns something from this"? I think you do.
