I really can't say that it will.

We'll be good but dominant is a stretch right now. You can't predict dominant.
That's reasonable. I think they will be BETTER than this season. Considering that they were dominant at times, even against good competition, there is reason to expect them to be very effective. However, there are enough question marks that is is hard to expect consistent dominance against everyone.

We won't be dominant but will be better on the d-line. Everyone is returning. DE's are still undersized and DT's are solid if not great. Will have better depth also.
Offense line will miss Hawkins and Alexander, but they can be replaced. I don't think the o-line will be worse than last year and will probably be better. Still not what you would call dominant. Should be one of the top 5 o-lines in the SEC.

We need to seriously revamp strength and conditioning. We will always be weak on the lines till its addressed.

One of the best O Linemen, a guy who is the only one I've ever seen who could competently play every position on the line, is coming back. Then you have a couple of freshmen who proved it all year on the field. They had inconsistent moments, but even with modest improvements in conditioning and technique, they should both be great starters next year. That's a pretty damn good core.
After that, we are speculating, but Grimes has brought in legit talent to compete for the other two spots. Weathersby and Valentine have all-conference potential. We just need one of them to step up at tackle, and one of several current reserves at guard to step up, and we have a more solid line than this year.
People need to back up to this point last year. We could have had to replace 4 guys, and even when Hawkins and Alexander both stayed, 2015 was always going to be a transition year. We had to play 2 freshmen and 3 vets out of typical positions. Honestly, I still think they overachieved, despite the inconsistency and getting overpowered down the stretch.

Yeah, even with a good oline,at times they were lost, sometimes in the red zone.our penalties dictated our offensive play calls too many times this year.that won't cut it in the west no matter how much talent you have.

Your posts in this thread have proven that you don't know shite about LSU football.

If we just get more efficient on offense without the penalties and get off to a faster start it could be enough to go all the way. We weren't that outclassed against Bama this year. We got off to a slow start and even came back to tie it up at one point. If we could've started faster instead of playing from behind then we could've changed the whole dynamic of that game. We are not as far away as some people think. If Harris can take a step forward this offseason then we will be right in the running to take the West.

I'm cautiously optimistic. The offense isn't as far away as folks act like it is. If BH can take the next step and Cam stays on the sidelines, we should be set. BH will be able to complete short passes and a lot of the stupid penalties will disappear. I'm far more concerned with special teams play than line play.

A better defense and special teams gets us that Arkansas game. We couldn't stop them or OM, and put our own offense in a hole. The O moved the ball plenty against OM, they just had very poor execution.
As critical as it is for the offense to get better, the defense and special team have to get right next year. Even with improvement, our offense needs that support. With Aranda's mind for the game and the rising talent level, I have hope again there. Instead of our DBs being confused as hell all the time trying to master crazy zone coverages, they are going to be playing aggressive man again. We haven't really seen that since 2012.
As for special teams, at least we saw a solid improvement over the last 2-3 games on coverage. Now we just need a damn punter, and we should be a lot better than most of last year.
The two critical pieces on offense are basic execution and Harris' consistency. Adding both of those would give the team what it needs to compete in every game.
Will all of this growth occur in one offseason? That's a tall order. I feel real hope for the D and special teams. However, the offensive staff have a LOT more to prove. Moving Cam to the sidelines was a positive for one game, but that isn't enough. They need discipline and leadership ON THE FIELD. We shall see.

Oline will be solid, DLine will likely be average.

beautiful man. I have no problem with being critical of our coaches and their decisions but many of these uber negative posters don't have a clue and have no problem of posting stuff they made up or heard another idiot post. bringing facts into the argument is not fair.

Overall we'll probably take a small step back on the OL next year,
why Clemson or Alabama lost a lot and didn't take any steps back.
Notre Dame had a lot of injuries and still manage to keep a great o line. We recruit so we won't have to drop off when losing 2 or 3 guys

Maybe you guys haven't noticed, but Bama and Ole Miss had great D Lines this season. Both are losing a lot of talent along their font 7s, and our guys will have another year of seasoning and conditioning.
Will you knock off that shite about what the gumps are "losing"?
We hear it every offseason: "Oh, they'll have a new quarterback!" "Oh, they'll be inexperienced!"
We heard it in 2014--"Oh, Sims is a first-time starter!"
And all they do is fricking reload and play for national championships while we lose our 3-5 games and play in small-time bowls.
And that's not so much that they recruit worlds better than us. We recruit just about as well as them--where we should be competing mostly even with them.
But hey, part of "reloading" every season starts at the top. That's the biggest difference between the two programs.

OL is a little bit more of a question mark. Would certainly have been nice to have Hawkins come back for his senior season, and it's TBD if Gordon gets his medical redshirt. Overall we'll probably take a small step back on the OL next year
I don't think so. In order to convince Hawkins and Vadal to come back last year we had to promise left and right tackle. Now, Hawkins was a legitimate left tackle, but Vadal was out of position. I don't think he hurt us at tackle, but it robbed us of a great guard.
Also, Hawkins is only a serviceable tackle at LSU's level. I think our line will be just as good due to development by all the young guys we had this year. Grimes has done a great job recruiting the offensive line.
