Brother
The people who said Tari was a lottery pick were not the ones with bad opinions. You had people on here saying he wasn’t an nba player, shouldn’t have turned pro, 2nd round pick, etc.

I had no idea Jabari Smith jr was the son of LSU’s Jabari Smith from the sweet 16 team. Damn I feel old now.

Wut?? He's regarded as one of the best defenders in this draft.

I guess one will play center and the other will.play power forward positions ? Why draft 2 people in first round for same team at same positions ?

I know man. I know. Admittedly didn’t get to watch much college ball this past season.

You must not watch much basketball. Get as many 6’8+ athletes who can handle the ball, shoot and finish and you can win a lot of games

They are two completely different players. Jabari has a great jumper and can get his shot from anywhere. Tari is limited offensively but is an elite defender that can guard 1-5. They complement each other well

Perkins compared him to Herb Jones WTF? Lol
That ESPN has that cat in the first seat for commentary on one of the NBA's marquee events shows you how much they have lost their way. A bag of hammers could articulate better and give more insight.

Tari is not an elite defender. He’s a great finisher, offensive rebounder and has a good 3pt shot.
Swing and a miss Wilson.

If he would have stayed he could have gone top 5 :/
No he wouldnt, he doesnt really have the full complete game for something like that.
The 2021 #17 overall pick signed a 4 year $14.8M fully guaranteed contract last year, so I think Tari will be pretty happy to be making on average $3.75M over the next 4 years without question.

Neither will play the 5 really, they can both either play the 3 or 4 in the NBA.
Also, they probably dont expect Tari to be a starter for them at all while Smith is. Being drafted in the 1st round in NBA is hardly a "he's a starter" automatically territory. Teams look for good bench pieces in the 1st round as well and Tari could be just that considering his role here he performed so well. Trey Murphy went in Tari's spot last year and plays for the Pelicans. He averaged 14 minutes and 5 points off the bench for the Pelicans this past season.
As for the folks calling him an elite defender - I would say hes a high end defender but what kept him from being elite is the foul trouble basically. He is a very good defender but used fouling a little too much to call him elite, at least in college. Thats one of the biggest things he will have to work on in the NBA if he wants starter type minutes.

Who was closer to being right
The person (me) that said he was a late lottery pick in January (he wasn’t even in mock drafts yet).
Or you, who said he was only 6’6” & would come back to lsu another year to develop offensively

I said i could see him sneaking into the lottery. Which implied he’d be on the fringes of the lotto. He missed it by a couple picks so i guess i was right.
Tell us more about how he’ll be lucky to go 2nd round
Posted on 6/24/22 at 10:35 am to SeanLSU
It’s a pretty bad comp. Yes, Eason has defensive ability, but he’s a very undisciplined defender that plays low minutes because he can’t stay out of foul trouble.
Herb Jones was playing 40 plus minutes in nba playoff games and not coming close to fouling out.

All of the advanced metrics graded him super high last year. He is the type of player that helps you win games. So I’m not surprised but am happy for him.
