If it would not have been reported by Herbie before the BCS game, he would have been gone.

Herbie announced it before SEC Championship. Miles wanted to go to Michigan in 2007 (remember before SEC Champ game it was thought that LSU blew their chance at the NC). However, Herbie had the report wrong. Michigan AD Bill Martin wouldn't return Miles' phone calls. Meanwhile, Skip and O'Keefe came at Miles with a contract extension and if he wanted to stay and get a raise, announce in a press conference before SEC Championship that he was staying at LSU and was not interested in other jobs. Have a great day.

The question has always been about whether Jimbo wants to coach here. If he doesn't, he won't. If he does, he will. Sure, Sexton will try to get him the most money but LSU can and will pay it if he wants it.
This is truth.

No one wants to answer your question because no one knows. Some dude spreading shite that Herman is now the hire and Jimbo is out. All threads being wacked and this one should too as I don't see the first link, quote or justified information.

Have a source I trust but like all on here no one else will trust. Heard les fired last week and now trying to whittle down $15 million buyout (last interview looked like he knew it) Was close on fisher then Lsu balked at paying his $5 mil buyout. Now negotiating with Houston coach. But could be a push to get jimbo to give a little. Again take it for what it's worth. My sourest a recently retired asst athletic director at another sec school

Just to elaborate on why it didn't make sense in the first place. The difficulties in Jimbo's personal life are part of it. Leaving a cushy road to the playoff in the ACC for the SEC West is part of it. The argument that Jimbo "felt like LSU was home" seemed like a stretch.

My understanding was it was the second flirtation in which the AD didn't call Miles back, not in 07

Jimbo may have backed out like Les did with Michigan a few years ago

Huge difference here. Jimbo has actually been offered the job. Les was never offered the Michigan job

His divorce may very well also complicate matters.

is that a new development, or would he have known he was going through a divorce when the initial contact was made?

This is why the "what Miles deserves" garbage is so absurd, guy would've crawled across broken glass not once, but twice to take that Michigan job. Then he used an actual lesser program in our own division to get more money out of us. He so loves LSU he led your AD to believe he'd go to Arkansas. Same clowns crying for Miles tonight are still butt hurt that Saban left for an NFL team. What he deserves from us, is less than he has.

No info whatsoever, but do know Sexton understands leverage and will use it where he can.

Bill Martin was AD back in 2007 and never really liked Miles. He retired in 2010. Miles wasn't interested in 2010 because Dave Brandon was the AD and Miles is a Papa John's fan.

Not yet.. we could pull the offer and end Sexton and Jimbo's pay day.

We are square 1 with a ton of PR damage which was already sustained before the Ole Miss game.

That buyout was no secret. Did LSU expect it to disappear? Or for Jimbo to pay it? That doesn't make sense.

For the very first time in this entire process, my optimism is waning. What makes it worse - at least for me - is that it will now appear as if a reactionary media bullied the administration into retaining Miles. I was ready to be ecstatic about LSU FB again. Now we'll likely just get more of the same. Disappointing. I know it's just game, but I really love it. Oh well.

I feel the same way. If we hire a coach with 1 year coaching experience I am done with Alleva and the whole group of clowns at LSU.
