Tailgate Setup Time

I tailgate in the interior of campus. LSU does not open the gates to the public until 4pm on Friday. It has been this way for a while. Every Friday, it is a mad rush to get into campus and claim your spot when they open the gates. If you dont get to your spot fairly early, you are very likely to find a one-weekend warrior in your spot.
This past home game (Auburn), we arrived and where allowed in at 4pm as usual but this time LSU had placed signs all over campus that read "Tailgate Setup not permitted until AFTER 5pm on Friday".
I have a trailer so I had no other option than to park it in our usual spot before 5pm (Surely LSU doesnt expect everyone with a trailer to make laps around campus for an hour before setting up.) Just after I unhooked the trailer, I am approached by 3 LSU employees on a golf cart who proceeded to reprimand me for not following the new rule. (To be clear, not one single tailgater followed the rule. By the time I parked my trailer, campus was already littered with tents and trailers). The LSU employees told me that the new rule is in place to insure that the campus remains a campus for students and not a piece of land used for tailgating. Basically, LSU does not want tailgaters on campus while the bulk of classes are still in session.
However, can anyone provide insight on how they arrived at the 5pm time. I can not come to any logical conclusion. If you are going to allow tailgaters in to campus at 4pm then allow them to set up at 4pm. Either change the time the gates open to 5pm or change the setup time to 4pm. Every year LSU inflicts more stringent rules that hinders tailgating. LSU is well known for being the greatest tailgate experience in the country. Every year we have random people that stop by our tailgate and tell us that they are from out of town and just wanted to come see what the hype was all about. These people aren't a fan of LSU or the opposing team. They traveled to LSU strictly to experience LSU tailgating. LSU didn't create that tourist attraction. We the fans created it and maintain it. I am scared that they will eventually just restrict tailgating in the interior of campus.
Sorry for the novel. Rant Over!!

TLDR you don't want to follow the new rules.
Many classes and labs are still open until 4:30, some even later. The 5pm set up time allows these students access to and from campus without the hassle of dealing with tailgaters and the associated traffic.I would come, park, and wait to unhook your trailer until 5.

Such a terrible excuse by the administration. Campus is near empty of students at 4 on a friday.

No one here will know why they decided to enforce the 5pm rule but just deal with it and get there at 5pm to set up. There really is no limit to what our fans will bitch about these days.

LSU admin has more to worry about than your trailer problems.

They never worried about it until this year.

frick them...literally everyone gets there at 4 and we aren't technically setting up a tailgate. All we are doing is parking our trailer and roping off our spot.

It really doesn't matter if they never enforced this before. They're enforcing it this year. It's an hour later. Jesus Christ.

Apparently my trailer problems are exactly what they are worried about. Which is why they created the rule and paid employees to drive around campus to enforce it.
But thank yall for reminding me how miserable of a place Tiger Droppings is.

I'm not bitching about it as I said...all we do on Friday is park our trailer and rope our spot off. We aren't breaking any rules by doing that before 5

Adam4LSU, I parked my trailer and roped off my spot at 4:30 and was approached by LSU employees. Who proceeded to ask me if my watch was broken

At least they were witty.

I totally agree with your rant. For Auburn, I waited until 5 and when I got to my spot someone was in it. They were nice enough to move over, but I was pretty perturbed for a minute.
It seems LSU gets a little more restrictive with their tailgating rules every year. Every year projects eat up a little more parking. I love tailgating and will continue to do it but every once in a while I question my dedication.

I agree. The problem is, these students who are on campus working at that time are the ones that will bitch. So, this is an easy and free way to placate them. The actual enforcement is done by morons.

I've got seminar every friday afternoon from 3:30-4:45ish so surprisingly that hour makes a huge difference for me/my department on campus. Easier escape to my car without mass amounts of traffic and rvs headed onto campus

Congrats on being 1 of probably 100...out of 28k.
Early tailgate set up does not affect the students one bit. I know because that was me just a couple of years ago, and about half of my current tailgate.

And does walking past a couple of tailgating tents piss you off after class?
And sucks for you to not start your weekend until 5:20. In college I was out of that place before noon.

they are making it harder to tailgate for sure. always different rules, access to areas constantly changing. now the big push is the green fencing in the free lots. they really don't give a crap about tailgating, becuase they can't fix the traffic issue, they blame tailgating. its coming,,,soon what we take for granted will be gone. just like all the other SEC schools.
