Stepping back from all this euphoria for a bit, how does CPM not know if Petersen hit in high school or not?

Did we not recruit this kid heavily? No evaluation on what he could do other than pitch? Did our assistants and grad assistants not look into the kid’s career at all? Talk to his HS coaches?

Something doesn’t sit right with me about this.

An elite program should know what they’re getting onto campus.

They recruited him as a pitcher. Who gives a shite what else he did in high school?

He seems to have been a PO in high school so I wouldn't think Mainieri would care if he hit at all in high school.

Same as Storz. That 95 mph fastball makes you not give a shite about the bat. Storz won a HR competition in a major league park...........
Yet he’s LSU “Unicorn” pitching prospect...

LSU’s 2021 short stop commit just pitched a masterpiece vs Curtis a week ago. Curtis is loaded with D1 signees. Would it be helpful to know if that kid could get you innings if needed?

Or is it just “kid’s a SS, that’s all we need to know?”

So much recruiting is done at showcase and summer tourneys they really dont give a crap what you're doing on your high school team. College coaches are in the middle of their season they don't have time to drive around to see u play. Their summers are for recruiting.

He shoulda explained the “turn the other cheek” thing better. Lots of people don’t get that one right.

Yep, and then throw him in there without any insight. It's a bit odd.

In fairness, exactly how well did he hit in High School?

Does anyone actually know? I am responding to OP without read the thread. If already answered, please disregard.

Perfectly understandable that he didn’t know if he can hit or not.
Out of state kids are primarily recruited during Sumer ball. Most top
players are on all star travel teams. On those teams, the pitchers don’t
hit unless they are projecting to be a two way player in college.
A friend of mines son pitches in the SEC, which is where my information
comes from. His son was a 300 hitter in high school, but never batted
on the travel ball teams.

This is the most LSU fan thread ever. Oh yea we won and our pitcher that has not batted ever at LSU hit a 2 run double and then closed the game to lock our NCAA chances but let’s find out how to bash the coach.

You people are incorrigible. The decision was to let him PITCH (once we were up by a run), not to let him HIT (as if we put the game on his bat). The hit was just a bonus that fell out of the sky from the gods. Have fun with it. Be a fan.
