Man I sure do miss guys like Kennison returning punts after TM7 left it's been very below average on punt returns.

OBJ had a thing of beauty against Ole Miss.
Also Chark vs Aubie turned that game.

Said on Rohan's show last night that he originally committed to FSU, on the first night of his official visit. He said he was sitting in Bowden's office the next morning waiting to talk to him. Said Bowden walked up behind him put his hand on his shoulder and said " Mike I'm so glad you decided to commit to FSU". Kennison said he immediately looked at him and told him he was no longer committed and called his HS coach and told him to set up an official with LSU.

A friend of mine worked on FSU's staff as an athletic trainer. He said Bowden didn't know his own players names and would call them their jersey number at practice. He definitely said he was nothing more than a figure head at the end of his time. He also said Jimbo could give a locker room speech that would make you want to run through a wall.

I remember that return. I went from yelling No, No, No to Yes, Yes, Yes. Heck of a return.

Yeah everyone in the stands was screaming at him at the beginning and then cheering him soon after.

To be fair, players said that Bowden would call them his sons names all of the time in practice by accident.

I heard Bear Bryant was often confused during games. If I remember correctly, there was a story going around he was in one and turned around calling for (I think) Steadman Shealy (former Bama QB) to enter the game. Only problem--Steadman had graduated several years earlier.

Punt Return

was at that game, stadium was packed!!!

ETA: there was another 100+ return that he did(long time ago, might be confusing this,) where he made a fair catch signal, back pedaled into the end zone, then decided to run it out and took it to the house, obviously the refs blew the call

I think Jesse Daigle set the single game passing yardage record during that same Miss State game.

Went to my high school. RC Slocum was the coach there at one time….not sure if Eddie was there then.

Kennison had wheels

I was one of the few left in the student section for that game. It stormed and the stadium was only about 1/3 full. I remember watching and saying WTF are you doing then immediately going crazy. Incredible.

That is way up there on the list of the most incredible punt returns I have witnessed in Tiger Stadium. I was one year old on Halloween night 1959, but this one reminds me of Dietzel's reaction to Billy Cannon's run. He went from yelling "No Billy No" to "Go Billy Go". I was yelling the same to Eddie.

And that is classic Jim Hawthorne.

I remember one game where an FSU player was tossed and when they asked Bobby about it at half, he didn't even know the guy had been kicked out. It was great.

At the end, he was just a figure head, but man, he built them into an unbelievable powerhouse out of nowhere and I loved that he would play anyone anywhere (including us in Tiger Stadium). His team finished in the top 4 for 14 straight years. That will probably never be topped.

He was 5-1 against us in Tiger Stadium (the only loss was the flying oranges game). In fact, he loved Tiger Stadium and said it was the loudest place he ever coached and said it had great mystique. LSU actually offered him the job in 79 and he was torn on what to do, but his FSU team came in and beat LSU and he said that win made him decide to stay at FSU. He said winning in Tiger Stadium was a huge accomplishment for his program and the rest is history.

If we would have had Bowden and Saban for 15 years a piece, we would have won 6 or 7 National Championships since 1980.
